Super Bowl XLVII has come and gone, but in its wake is a sea of commercials. Despite some of the bitching going on about some of these commercials being racist, we’re simply going to focus on one commercial. (Topics of racism don’t generally fall under the Yell! Magazine umbrella, unless we’re talking about Blacksploitation or the token black guy getting picked off first in an ’80s slasher film.)
So, yes, Star Trek Into Darkness put up $4 million for a 30-second TV spot during the Super Bowl. We’ve seen most of the content of this commercial in previous trailers, but there were some new moments in there for you to relish: namely the dialog between Kirk (Chris Pine) and John Harrison (Benedict Cumberbatch).
Whether it was a stroke of genius or a complete waste of money, this TV spot marks the start of Star Trek Into Darkness‘ TV campaign before the film gets released on May 17, 2013.
