A real stare down will take place a few days before UFC 187: Jones vs. Johnson, which is a light heavyweight event that will be held on May 23, 2015, at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.

I think that if they start exchanging, which they will, because AJ brings a lot of pressure, he’ll knock him out. I’ll say within the first two rounds for sure, to say like that makes it sound like I don’t have any respect for Jon Jones and what he’s done as far as being a champion. But let’s be honest here, what it comes down to is punching power, this kid can really hit. – Rashad Evans

As promised by the UFC, the winner of Gustafsson vs. Johnson is guaranteed a light heavyweight title shot early this year. At UFC on FOX 14, Anthony Johnson mauled through “The Mauler” in the very first round and won the bout by TKO in Sweden. After the event, Johnson secured himself a title shot against Jon Jones and a date for the bout is already in the works, according to an announcement by UFC President Dana White on Wednesday.

We’re looking to do that fight in May; I don’t have the exact date, but May.

Speculation is the fight will take place on Memorial Day weekend in Las Vegas, Nevada, a slot regularly reserved for big pay-per-view events. So don’t be shocked to hear that Jones vs. Johnson will be announced shortly for Saturday, May 23, 2015 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena.

Jones’ most recent win inside the Octagon was against Daniel Cormier at UFC 182 via unanimous decision. Many believe Johnson will be his final test at light heavyweight.

For those that skipped UFC on FOX 14 over the weekend missed Alexander Gustafsson’s first TKO loss in the UFC. That’s right! On Saturday night, Anthony Johnson took over the Number 1 light heavyweight contender spot from Gustafsson in just 44 seconds of the first round, and secured himself a title shot with UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones.

Following Gustafsson’s loss, Jones used Twitter to defame the Swedish mixed martial artist and said, “Not impressed Alex”, a famous line made famous by Georges St. Pierre at UFC 63 in 2006. However, Johnson fire back at Jones and defended Gustafsson.

This world is screwed up. In my opinion, when somebody is down, people always wants to step on you and keep you down. No one really wants to help you up. That’s why I think this world is screwed up.

I don’t know, man. Jon is who he is. He’s got bigger things to worry about than Alex.

Johnson will now face Jones inside the Octagon later this year. UFC officials are expected to make an announcement in the very near future.
