They sat there getting eaten alive by mosquitoes, but they toughed it out like true warriors.

Among the topics of discussion were the new material, fan response, collaborations, Nu Metal, fears, and the possibility of a future tour with Megadeth!

Fact is, Coal Chamber is back with a vengeance, and so far the future is looking bright for these guys who operate in a heavy groove.

Coal Chamber Douse Nuns With Blood In The “I.O.U. Nothing” Video https://www.yellmagazine.com/coal-chamber-douses-nuns-blood-iou-nothing-video/99647/ https://www.yellmagazine.com/coal-chamber-douses-nuns-blood-iou-nothing-video/99647/#comments Thu, 14 May 2015 12:56:06 +0000 https://www.yellmagazine.com/?p=99647 I was never a fan of Coal Chamber and probably still wouldn’t be had I not discovered DevilDriver, and thus Dez Fafara. This time around it sounds like Dez is bringing with him elements of DevilDriver into the Coal Chamber soundscape, and it sounds pretty damn awesome. The hooks, effects, melodies, and overall pit melodies contained within the new track, “I.O.U. Nothing,” are sure to get a crowd in a frenzy, maybe even you as you sit in front of your computer.

The video for “I.O.U. Nothing” dropped yesterday, and in it they put two nuns head to head, have them scream at each other, then douse them in blood. See kids, this is how you make a video on the cheap without resorting to the boring performance video. Unless you’re a musician of legendary stature, no one wants to see you play outside of a concert venue.

About the song, Dez said:

’I.O.U. Nothing’ is about being able to sleep well at night, knowing you owe no one anything in life except yourself and your family. It’s like we’re climbing towards the sun, falling over everything, falling over every one, just kick the planets aside, come with me the universe will provide! To sum up the first line, it’s basically saying, in life go at it your hardest, step over obstacles, do your best—and if you do, the universe will give its rewards and do it without owing anyone anything!

“I.O.U. Nothing” comes off of Coal Chamber’s upcoming album, Rivals, which will be released on May 19th. Pre-orders for Rivals in special bundles packages including a CD/DVD, LP (limited to 1,000 purple LPs), T-shirt, beanie, and wristbands are available here.

Before DevilDriver there was Coal Chamber, at least for vocalist Dez Fafara. Now Dez is pulling double duty now that Coal Chamber has reformed. News originally broke as far back as August 2014, when the ’90s-era band announced a new album for 2015, and then in December announcing a spring 2015 tour.

Now, Coal Chamber has confirmed May 19th as Rivals‘ official release date, which is their first in over 13 years. As well as the release date, the band has released the cover art (above) and the track listing.

Dez Fafara on Rivals:

This record was over 13 years in the making and I promise this record won’t disappoint and will be worth the wait! Rivals is solid through and through, there’s maturity and growth in the music while still maintaining the true Coal Chamber sound and delivering track after track of killer tunes! We had a great time working together on this record and I hope you all enjoy it as much as we do!

White Empress Streams Rise Of The Empress In Its Entirety https://www.yellmagazine.com/white-empress-streams-rise-of-the-empress-entirety/90317/ https://www.yellmagazine.com/white-empress-streams-rise-of-the-empress-entirety/90317/#comments Mon, 29 Sep 2014 15:52:34 +0000 https://www.yellmagazine.com/?p=90317 white empress - rise of the empress - album cover

Comprised of former Cradle of Filth guitarist/songwriter, Paul Allender, and former Coal Chamber bassist, Chela Harper, White Empress is poised to embark on vicious run as a solid extreme heavy metal band with the release of their debut album, Rise of the Empress, on September 30th (Peaceville Records). [Note: The September 30th release date is according to the press release, everywhere else I look says it’s out today, September 29th.] If you can’t wait till tomorrow to blow out your ear holes with the heavy hymns from Minneapolis, Minnesota, you can stream the album in its entirety over at Revolver.

After taking a listen, I think you’ll agree that White Empress, although similar, is slightly more palatable for the masses than is Cradle of Filth. Also, there’s no doubt you’ll get as excited as an 18-year-old virgin in a whore house when you hear some of the incredible riffs. White Empress is definitely a theatrical band with elements of both Rob Zombie and Marilyn Manson, and the diversity of Mary Zimmer’s vocals, ranging from black metal death growls to near operatic, is outstanding.

Allender talked to Revolver about the band and the new album:

Rise of the Empress is what metal has been so desperately wanting for such a long time. Something to wake it up from the mundane normal safe scene we are all in now. It’s heavy as hell, rocks like fuck, and it grooves along like a possessed freight train….. Hail the White Empress!

Coal Chamber Is Back, Announces New Album For 2015 https://www.yellmagazine.com/coal-chamber-new-album/88530/ https://www.yellmagazine.com/coal-chamber-new-album/88530/#comments Wed, 13 Aug 2014 01:44:41 +0000 https://www.yellmagazine.com/?p=88530 coal chamber - new album in 2015

Coal Chamber has just announced their signing to Napalm Records and that there is a new album on the way.

After reuniting in 2011 for some shows and festival runs, the ’90s-era juggernaut of nu metal feels the time is right for a full-fledged comeback after officialy breaking up back in 2003. Earlier today, Coal Chamber announced that all four original members (Dez Fafara, Nadja Peulen, Mikey Cox, Meegs) were together again and already working on new material, which they expect to drop next year.

Here’s what each of the band members had to say:

Dez Fafara

How many times do you get a second chance at anything in life? We toured the world, it was insane and crowds came out in force and we had a blast! For this I’m so appreciative!

Now… it’s time to release a new Coal Chamber Record! The Vibe between us all is positive AND we’ve assembled a killer team around us!

Now, with Napalm Records on board, get ready for a heavy explosion from Coal Chamber! We’ve evolved and so has the music, from the demo music I’ve heard you’re gonna sink your teeth into this! Stay tuned!

Nadja

It’s been a long time coming but the wait is over! There are no words to describe how excited I am to be working on the new Coal Chamber record!!! I can’t wait to see all your faces when we rock this album out! Stay tuned!!!”
XO

Mikey Cox

This is the first time in a long time that writing and recording a record feels right. Extremely grateful and excited for this new chapter in the world of Coal Chamber!! New music from CC is something we can’t wait to share with the many loyal fans that have stuck it out through everything!!! The evolution of Coal Chamber has begun!

Meegs

I’m so excited to be making music with my brothers and sister, and to the loyal fans who’ve been waiting for this! It’s been a long time coming, but the pieces of the puzzle are finally aligned right. The friendship, the camaraderie, the vibe of the band is perfect now. Can’t wait to unleash on the world!

We’ll keep you posted as this news develops, but for now, tell us what you’re thinking in the comments section below.
