Magazine

Resident Evil 6

The first news on Resident Evil 6 was revealed this week, and they have a release date. The new trailer looks to be bringing back a bunch of characters. Leon S. Kennedy and Chris Redfield seem to be returning. There was even a glimpse of presidential daughter Ashley Graham in there. The story will take place 10 years after the events in Raccoon City. Bioterrorism and government conspiracies are swirling, and it’s up to you to travel around the world to stop the outbreak.

The last game in the Resident Evil series was more action oriented, this game will still have that, but this time around it looks like they are making an effort to add a more survival horror feel that the franchise made famous. Resident Evil 6 will be released this year, on November 20th, for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. A PC version will be available soon after.

Gran Turismo 5

Finally, I can use the fuel-efficient yet stylish design of a Nissan Leaf in Gran Turismo 5. A six pack of new cars, and a new track is now available for purchase for Gran Turismo 5. The downloadable pack includes a Lamborghini Aventador, the Jaguar XJR-9 LM, an Aston Martin V12 Vantage, a 1966 Volkswagen 1200, the Mini Cooper S Countryman, and the Nissan Leaf. The car pack and the Route X test track is available now for $6.

Saints Row: The Third

Head Cheap-Ass Gamer, CheapyD, did something uncharacteristic to his name, and really classy to boot. Saints Row developer Volition had a charity auction to help pay the medical bills of 23-year-old burn victim Ashley Ames. One item up for auction was the chance to be a voice in Saints Row: The Third. CheapyD answered the call to the tune of $2,000. You can now download the free Saint’s Row 3 Cheapy D DLC. You’ll be able to call him up and ride with you after you unlock Shaundi’s Ex-boyfriend’s apartment in the game. Class acts for all involved.

Ico and Shadow of the Colossus

The PlayStation 3 has recently been offering PlayStation 2 games for download, but besides a few exceptions, the titles on tap have been lackluster to say the least. Not anymore. For any of you who haven’t played the amazing Ico and Shadow of the Colossus, now’s your chance. Both games are now available on the PlayStation Network for $20 a pop.

THQ

Last weekend, Twitter was a flutter with rumors that publisher THQ had canceled its entire 2014 release schedule and that it would start selling off the company, returning intellectual property to their licensors. This all started when Kevin Dent, a gaming industry business veteran, tweeted the “news” above and that Warhammer 40,000: Dark Millenium Online would also see the same fate.

With obvious concern for their already floundering stock price, THQ issued the following statement:

”THQ has not canceled its 2014 line-up and has not made any decisions regarding the planned MMO. As part of the ongoing review of our business, we have made decisions to ensure that the company is strategically addressing the most attractive markets. As we have previously announced, we have dramatically reduced our commitment to the kids’ boxed games sector, which leads to a significantly more focused release schedule moving forward. Our slate for calendar 2012 and beyond is focused on high-quality core games and continues to build our digital platform and business. We are excited for our pipeline of original and high-quality content along with our relationships with some of the best talent in the industry.”

THQ has many licenses under its belt. Besides the aforementioned Warhammer series, they are also in charge of the WWE and UFC franchises, and, more importantly, they are responsible for the hit or miss Red Faction series, and arguably one of best games of last year, Saints Row: The Third. I admit the market is tough, and despite their great licenses, their stock price is less than perfect, making these rumors sound plausible. I wouldn’t be surprised if THQ becomes a thing of the past in the next couple of years.

Dead Island: Ryder White

I like Dead Island. It has its problems, but its a serviceable zombie-filled romp that you can have with friends. This time around, the new downloadable content will allow you to play as that voice on the radio, and all around pain, Ryder White. This story-based DLC puts you in the shoes of Ryder White and lets you play events coinciding with the main game. In a world of competitive multiplayer maps, I always appreciate story-based DLC, and I’m more likely to play it, especially if its for a game with a story I liked. Download this side story on January 31st for $9.99 on the PlayStation Network, and February 1st for 800 Microsoft Points on the Xbox 360 Marketplace.

Angry Brides

I’m all for raising awareness to human rights violations against women, especially if doing so involves the creation of silly yet poignant Facebook-based Angry Birds clones. I know the play on words sounds disrespectful, but its trying to make a good point.

Over 50 years ago, marriage dowries, the giving of money or jewels to a groom in order for them to agree to marry a woman was outlawed in India. However, the custom is still alive and well. In fact it has gotten so bad that grooms began to ask for even more money after the marriage ceremony. Reports show that failure to comply to these customs have resulted in physical and mental abuse. For example, the act of burning a wife alive or “stove burning” would occur if payment wasn’t met. In 2010 alone, there were 8,000 dowry-related deaths and 90,000 dowry-related abuse cases, and these are just the reported cases.

In an interview, Ram Bhamidi, Sr. VP and head of online marketing for Shaadi.com, a matrimonial website with two million members, and the developer of the game, told Reuters:

“The Angry Brides game is our way of throwing a spotlight on the nuisance of dowry. According to a 2007 study… there is a dowry-related death every four hours in India. We condemn this menace and have consistently run campaigns on social media to help create awareness of the issue.”

I love my girlfriend, and she comes from that part of the world, it’s why things like this scare the hell out of me. Any man who demands money for marriage, and raises a hand to someone they supposedly love, is not much of a man in my book. It’s cowardly and pathetic. These “men” don’t deserve to be married, and should be ashamed of themselves. I admit, is a Facebook game where you hit three unsuspecting grooms in the face with pots and pans the best way to combat dowry related spousal abuse, or any kind of abuse? Probably not, but it’s a start.

Max Payne 3

The only people who like game delays are the programmers franticly trying to finish the game they are working on. The happy coders this time is the Rockstar Games team working on the highly anticipated Max Payne 3. Unfortunately for us, they won’t be making their planned March 2012 release window. The release is now pushed back to May 15th for consoles and May 29th for PCs in North America. The rest of the world is getting Payne on May 18th for consoles and June 1st on PC. By the looks of the game, the extra two months might be worth the wait.

Magazine

Grand Theft Auto V

Rockstar Games debuted its first trailer for Grand Theft Auto V. The game will be set in the city of Los Santos, the fictional version of Los Angeles. This will actually be a more detailed version of the Los Santos than 2004s Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas. Watch the trailer here at Yell! Magazine.

Resident Evil: Chronicles HD Selection

The Wii exclusive titles, Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles and Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles are coming to the PlayStation 3 as Resident Evil: Chronicles HD Selection. As the name suggests, the games are gonna get an HD coat of paint as well as PlayStation Move support. No release date yet, but stay tuned for more info here at Yell! Magazine.

Assassin’s Creed

People in Hollywood will be trying on their best Assassin’s Creed cosplay soon, because Sony Pictures recently registered 16 domains for an Assassin’s Creed movie. Ubisoft’s own motion pictures division will be overseeing the project to make sure Sony doesn’t screw it up.

Gears of War 3

If you’re not a Gears of War 3 Season Pass holder, and if you haven’t bought the Horde Command Pack, you’re in luck. Microsoft’s announced a free Gears of War 3 content pack. The Versus Booster Map Pack will give you three of the maps from the Horde Command Pack, and with the Swamp and Clocktower multiplayer maps from the original Gears of War. However, you won’t get any of the extra game modes that came with the Horde Command Pack. The Versus Booster Map Pack will be available for free on November 24th.

DC Universe Online

Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game, DC Universe Online became free-to-play and available for download on the PlayStation 3. You can still pay $15 a month for a Legendary account to get all available and future content, or spend at least $5 at their store to get a Premium account that includes more slots, capabilities, and options than the free account. If you’re curious and have the free hard drive space, give it a try, but I’d hold off on spending any real money unless you really get into it. Hopefully, this move won’t end like our next story.

LEGO Universe

As one begins a new phase in its life, another dies. Despite implementing a free-to-play model in August, LEGO Universe will be gone on January 31, 2012. They simply didn’t have enough subscribers to keep it alive. I was aware of the game, but to be honest, I heard so little about the game that up until I heard of this story, I thought that the game was still in beta. I admit, though, I’d much rather play with real LEGOs.

Fallout: New Vegas Ultimate Edition

For those who have yet to experience any Fallout: New Vegas, Bethesda is releasing Fallout: New Vegas Ultimate Edition. This version will include all of the currently released add-ons. Fallout: New Vegas Ultimate Edition will be released on February 10th, perfect for that lonely heart on Valentine’s Day.

This Week In Gaming News – Steve Jobs (1955-2011) Here’s the top gaming news for the week of October 3, 2011, brought to you by Yell! Magazine

Apple

The iPhone 4S will be out next Friday, on October 14, and iOS 5 will be released a few days before that on October 12. The iPods got a refresh too. That’s all well and good, but that’s not really the story this week… but first the news.

Metal Gear Solid HD Collection: Limited Edition

Including an art book in your game’s special edition goes without saying. Metal Gear Solid HD Collection: Limited Edition will come with the mother of all art books. The Art of Metal Gear Solid is a huge 248- page amalgamation of everything Metal Gear. Concept art, early sketches, paintings, and anything else they could think of. The games are more of a bonus. I probably won’t play the games in the collection, and just get this for the sweet coffee table art book.

Portal 2: Peer Review

Valve promised Portal 2 players some free summer DLC. Luckily it’s still a little warm in October, because now you can download “Peer Review.” GLaDOS is back to torment us with new single-player and co-op challenge rooms. If that wasn’t enough, in co-op, you and friend can continue the adventures of P-Body and Atlas and figure out what happened to all these pesky test subjects. Download it now for free on Steam, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360.

Serious Sam 3: BFE

File this under, games I could care less about. The release of Serious Sam 3: BFE just got pushed back, and for good reason, but it’s still not exactly sitting pretty. Sam was suppose to be released right next to Battlefield 3. Assuring that it will be flying under the radar with little to moderate sales. Now, Serious Sam 3: BFE will be released on November 22. That’s roughly around the same time as another big game with the number 3 in the title, sales juggernaut, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3. This assures that the only people getting Sam 3 are kids with grandmas that got them the wrong game. Good Luck Sam!

Gotham City Impostors

When I think Batman, the first thing that comes to mind has always been the team-based first-person shooter. Well, not really, but Gotham City Impostors is trying to make that happen. The beta just ended, and it’s gonna be around $15 or 1,200 Microsoft Points at release. Still no release date, but we should get our team Batman vs. Team Joker soon, here at Yell! Magazine.

Chrono Trigger

Why are you reading this? Go download Chrono Trigger right now on the PlayStation Network. It’s $10! I remember back in the day, I paid $80 for a copy of Chrono Trigger on the SNES, and now I can get it for $10. You’d be crazy not to buy one of the great role playing games ever made. Stop reading this, go now!

Mass Effect 3

Thanks to an article in Xbox World magazine, rumor has it that Mass Effect 3 will come with some sort of multiplayer component. I guess I’m not surprised, EA’s big on their online passes, and supposedly the collector’s edition of Mass Effect 3 will come with an online multiplayer pass. Speculation time, we’re either getting, Shepard-vs.-Shepard-team deathmatches, story mode co-op play, or both. Is it needed? Probably not. Is it a good business move? Well, with the amount of used copies of Mass Effect 2 laying around, I guess it is. And I can’t blame them for trying to reduce used games sales, and make a little extra on the side. As long as the single player is still top-notch, I’ll be happy.

Gears of War 3

The first piece of Gears of War 3 DLC will be out soon. Horde Command Pack will add new Horde, Beast, and versus Mode maps, three new characters, and a pair of weapon skins. Included are also a few new toys for Horde mode. You’ll be able to build the new Command Center to call in snipers, mortars, and a Hammer of Dawn. Additionally, decoys can now be upgraded to Onyx bots, you can add fire bolts to sentries, and you can now add rockets to Silverbacks. The pack will be $10, or 800 Microsoft Point, but if you bought into that Season Pass deal, it’s already yours.

Resident Evil: Revelations

Have you ever wondered what happened between Resident Evil 4 and Resident Evil 5? Well, Resident Evil: Revelations is coming to 3DS early next year to answer that question.

Xbox 360

With the fall Xbox 360 Dashboard Update, this holiday season the Xbox will be getting on-demand streaming TV. And like usual, Canada is getting short changed. The U.S. gets SyFy, North of the border, they get Disney XD. You can still get Netflix, and buy shows off of Zune, if you’re into that sort of thing. Carriers such as Telus and Rogers will offer on-demand content. Sports fans will have UFC and something called Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment/Real Sports, whatever that is. You get what you paid for, and this stuff will be free, so don’t expect much. But you are expected to have a Xbox Live Gold Membership in order to access any of this “great” content. TV on your Xbox goes live sometime this holiday season.

Steve Jobs (1955-2011)

Steve Jobs… I wanna say my piece. I remember my first iPod, it was pretty cool. I had other MP3 players, but nothing was as intuitive. I still have one of those Classic iPods with the click wheel. I was playing around with it recently, and it still holds up, no wonder they’re still selling it. You know what I love, their customer service. I’m the type of person who never buys extended warrantees, because they’re always garbage. But that Apple Care stuff is pretty cool, and if you call them for anything, with or without Apple Care, they are genuinely really nice, and try everything to help you. I tell everyone who gets anything Apple to get the Apple Care too, because it’s such a great service. The iPods, iPads, and MacBooks are all great products, but no one ever points out how nice of a company Apple is. I’m not talking about philanthropy, I mean actually nice. A company culture that is genuinely nice to their customers. I believe that’s the legacy Steve Jobs will leave.

Gears Of War 3 Review – Or: Well-Oiled Cog Or Squeaky Wheel? https://www.yellmagazine.com/gears-of-war-3-review/20789/ https://www.yellmagazine.com/gears-of-war-3-review/20789/#comments Fri, 30 Sep 2011 02:58:51 +0000 https://www.yellmagazine.com/?p=20789 Gears Of War is the Saving Private Ryan of the industry. It’s a washed-out, senses-shattering war movie in video game form, complete with all the necessary clichés that entail.

Epic Games’ celebrated series comes to a close with the recently released Gears Of War 3. Does the saga end on a high note with Marcus Fenix and Co. walking off into the sunset, heading toward further adventures down the line? Or is this Gear the runt of the assembly line, all bumps and odd corners and in serious need of oiling?

Gears Of War is the franchise that made war-time bromance a main storytelling point and introduced cries of “Chainsaw, chainsaw, chainsaw, fucking chainsaw!” to the gamer lexicon. Speaking of which, I’d like to congratulate Epic Games on finally finishing the assassination job that World Of Warcraft started long ago on my ear canals. Years of guild raids spent listening to the bitchy cries of prepubescent little snots rolled the ball halfway up the hill and I’ll be damned if the preteen bastards playing Gears Of War 3 online didn’t finally push that sucker all the way over the top. I’m not as young as I used to be, damn it! My ear canals are as brittle as the rest of me!

In any case, here is Yell! Magazine’s review of Gears Of War 3, available exclusively for Xbox 360. Accordingly, the 360 version was used for review purposes, along with a decent pair of ear muffs and a phone book opened to the murder-for-hire section. What? I only put out hits on the really screechy kids or the ones that overuse the damn chainsaw like they get a free blowjob with each kill.

Fuck you, *wazzupbitches666*!!!

Oh, and the heavy mouth breathers. Can’t stand those. Like I wanna hear your porno movie mouth noises when I’m getting my game on…

The Story

Capping off a trilogy is tricky business. There’s an undeniable desire to sprint to the finish. Gears Of War feels a bit like this, with a pretty straightforward story peppered here and there with admittedly awesome set pieces. While some could argue that storytelling has never been Gears of Wars’ strong suit, that the series relies more on gameplay than long diatribes on the horrors of war, the third entry features the franchise’s usual wartime melodrama. Soldiers die, civilians get butchered, and people will stop to ponder the philosophical implications of the ashen remains of innocents burned in nuclear fire. It’s business as usual for this series.

While I’m admittedly jaded from viewing a ton of war movies growing up, watching Gears Of War recycle the same clichés over and over again is starting to wear thin. Luckily, as with previous titles in the series, it’s the characters and their respective voice actors that end up making the game’s plot worthwhile.

Gears of War 3 screenshot
The Dirty Half-Dozen

As usual, main character Marcus Fenix makes for a gruff but strangely admirable hero. Sidekick Dominic is still along for the ride and his eventual fate should come as no surprise to veteran players since the character as been heading down this path since Gears Of War 2. Story wise, Gears of War 3 does everything the final chapter in a series should: The combined threat of the Lambent and Locust are defeated, long-running characters get proper sendoffs, subplots are tied up nicely and there’s a nicely emotional feel to the game’s final scenes that, while hinting at further games down the line, still allows for the franchise to rest in peace knowing full well it did its job and did it well.

This Week In Gaming News – Metal Gear Solid HD Collection, Forza 4, Assassin’s Creed: Revelations & More https://www.yellmagazine.com/week-gaming-news-5/20408/ https://www.yellmagazine.com/week-gaming-news-5/20408/#respond Fri, 23 Sep 2011 13:49:17 +0000 https://www.yellmagazine.com/?p=20408 Here’s the top gaming news for the week of September 19th, 2011 brought to you by Yell! Magazine

Metal Gear Solid HD Collection

Konami continues to rerelease all their old games with a high def coating, with the Metal Gear Solid HD Collection. The North American edition of the box set will include Metal Gear 2: Sons of Liberty, Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater: Subsistence (which includes Metal Gear, and Metal Gear 2), and Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker. That’s a lot of Metal Gear. The controls will be roughly the same, and it will look prettier on your HDTV. Assuming there’s Trophy support, I’d be totally willing to replay these games.

Dragon Age II: Mark of the Assassin

The new Dragon Age II DLC, Mark of the Assassin, will be released on October 11. It will feature the voice and likeness of Felicia Day, star of the online series The Guild. I’m not a big fan of Felicia Day, or The Guild. She was in an episode of House once. I liked her in that.

Forza 4

Microsoft’s simulation racing game, Forza 4, will be compatible with their new wireless motion-controlled racing wheel. In addition to the previously announced Kinect support for the game, how much more optional add-ons can they jam into this game. Believe it or not, I’m excited for this. I have the old bulky Microsoft racing wheel with the peddles, and I never use it because it was so unwieldily. I know motion controls can be hit or miss, but I’m willing to give this a shot because I like the feel of holding a wheel. Forza 4 will be out on October 11, and a demo will be out on October 3, so expect the new racing wheel at around the same time.

In other Forza News, when the game is released you can get, like most games these days, a season pass to all or most of the upcoming DLC. However, this season pass will be $30, rather than the usual $10. Why? Because it gets you access to 6 car packs. That’s 60 cars between the games release and April of next year. Is it worth the price? You do save $13 by buying the pass, but does anyone really buy all the cars. What if one pack is just Fiat’s, and you happen to hate Fiat’s. This really is only for the serious car nuts.

Gears of War 3

Gears of War 3 came out this week. If you don’t want to spend any money on ridiculous things like weapon skins, or multiplayer characters. Login to Facebook, go to the Gears of War fan page and like it. When you do you’ll get a code for multiplayer character Aaron Griffin. A Gears character voiced by Ice-T. It’s a fun freebie, get yours today.

PlayStation Vita

It was confirmed this week that the PlayStation Vita will be region-free. This means you can import Japanese games and play them on your North American bought Vita. Or vice-versa, because this also means you can import a Vita from Japan when it launches there at the end of this year, and play North American releases when they get her a few months after. So if you don’t mind spending the extra cash, you can get a Vita months before all your friends. I’m very tempted to do just that. The PlayStation Vita will be released in Japan on December 17, so get your orders in now.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3

Remember a couple week ago how I was speculating the possible Prestige Edition goodies for the next Modern Warfare. Well unfortunately it looks like none of that will happen. Infinity Ward’s Community Manager, Robert Bowling announced this week on Twitter that there will be no Prestige Edition of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3. Instead there will only be a standalone version of the game, and a $99 Hardened Edition which will include a steel bookcase, a 100 page field journal, and a year of their Elite membership service that gives you access to upcoming map packs, and other perks. I for one am a little disappointed. But I admit, the last thing I need is more useless gaming memorabilia. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 will be out on November 8.

Assassin’s Creed: Revelations

Those who decide to buy Assassin’s Creed: Revelations on the PS3 will get a little bonus. Packed in with every PS3 version of the game is a FREE copy of the original Assassin’s Creed directly on the disc. If you’ve never played the original, this is a perfect way to get acquainted with the games fiction, and see where it all began. It’s a great idea on the part of Ubisoft. I guess they had extra room on that Blu-ray and it costs them nothing to put it on there, so why not. Assassin’s Creed: Revelations will be out on November 15.

Diablo III

The Diablo III beta is available for DOWNLOAD NOW. If you signed up for the beta you might be one of the lucky chosen for this opportunity. Go to Battle.net, and look under your account info to see if you’re eligible. The download is 2.7GB, but require at least 14GB of free space, and you can get it for PC or Mac. In the beta, you only get to play a portion of Act I, and tryout the five character classes. You can create and level up the Barbarian, Witch Doctor, Wizard, Monk, or Demon Hunter up to level 13. Hopefully a more open beta will be released soon. There’s still no concrete release date for the Diablo III, but Blizzard is still hoping to get it out there before the end of this year.

Magazine

Max Payne 3

From the people who brought us Matrix style bullet time in a video game, comes Max Payne 3. In a press release by Rockstar Games founder Sam Houser:

“We’re excited to show fans a modern version of Max that pulls them back into his dark and twisted story.”

It’s been almost 8 years since the last Max Payne, and somehow you end up in Brazil as a private security contractor. Max Payne 3 will be released in March 2012. We’ll keep you posted on more Max Payne news here at Yell! Magazine.

Nintendo 3DS

Nintendo confirmed a Circle Pad attachment for the 3DS. This would allow dual analogue controls for the handheld. To make matters more bulky and complicated, it will also add a couple of shoulder buttons as well. The additions seems like an afterthought, and the only game that might use it is the Japanese phenomenon that is Monster Hunter. I think 95% of people won’t need this extra nub. This story just makes Nintendo look shortsighted.

Batman: Arkham City

When games come with a bonus soundtrack CD it’s usually something I never open because I get tired of the music just by playing the game. However, the soundtrack that comes with the collector’s edition of Batman: Arkham City is actually something I’d want to listen to more than once.
Here’s the track list to judge for yourself:

1. Panic! At The Disco – Mercenary

2. Coheed and Cambria – Deranged

3. The Duke Spirit – Creature

4. Black Rebel Motorcycle Club – Shadow On The Run

5. Blaqk Audio – Afterdark

6. The Raveonettes – Oh, Stranger

7. ††† (Crosses) – The Years

8. The Damned Things – Trophy Widow

9. Daughtry – Drown In You

10. The Boxer Rebellion – Losing You

11. Serj Tankian – Total Paranoia

12. A Place to Bury Strangers – In The Shadow

In other Arkham City news, the leaked achievement list confirms New Game Plus mode. Allowing players to go through the game again with all the toys they’ve unlocked. Batman: Arkham City will be out on October 18th.

Gears of War 3

In other video game soundtrack news, you’ll be able to buy the Gears of War 3 soundtrack day-in-day with the game. You can find it on iTunes, Amazon, or from SumthingDigital.com. Gears of War 3 and its soundtrack will be available on September 20th.

Devil May Cry

The ESRB, the video games rating board recently rated the old trio of Devil May Cry games. It is safe to assume that the first three games in the Devil May Cry series are up for an HD rereleased. I’ve never been a big fan of the games, but I’d be willing to give them another go, especially if that means easy achievements.

Gamestop / Apple, Steam, and Star Trek Online

In quick news, soon you might be able to buy and trade-in your Apple devices at Gamestop. In Steam you can now trade your Team Fortress 2 hats for Portal 2, or Sega’s Spiral Knights stuff. And the MMO Star Trek Online just became free to play.

Halo 4

Ryan Payton, Halo’s Creative Director is leaving Microsoft and 343 Studios. In an interview with Kotaku, Payton stated:

“The Halo I wanted to build was fundamentally different and I don’t think I had built enough credibility to see such a crazy endeavor through.”

However, he believes that the team is making the best game they can. But just not the game he wants. It really sounds like everyone involved is trying to put a positive spin on this. What he’s basically saying is, we’re gonna get a great Halo game, it might be more of the same, but it’ll be good. Do any of us really want a drastically different Halo game? I for one wasn’t a fan of the real time strategy Halo Wars. So just give me some grunts to shoot at and a holographic blue lady.

Battlefield 3

A shot of a Japanese Battlefield 3 promo poster revealed that the Xbox 360 version of the game will come on two discs. There are many ways they can separate the content. They can have one disc just be an install disc, like they did with Forza 3. Or they can have one disc be single player content, and the other be multiplayer content. Either option isn’t ideal, especially if you lack the hard drive space. The Blu-ray PS3 version sounds more convenient. Then again you might miss out on some exclusive Xbox 360 only content. It’s gonna be a tough choice. We’ll help you make it when the game is released on October 25th.

Call of Duty Elite

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 will launch with the Call of Duty Elite service. It’s a social network for COD fans. For a yearly fee, players of Black Ops and MW3 will be able to group up and show off all their achievements. Check out the video for all the details.

Deus Ex: Human Revolution

The Missing Link, Deus Ex: Human Revolution’s first downloadable content will be released in October. Be ready for new people to interact with, new environments, and the ability to change all your body augmentations.

Dead Rising 2: Off The Record

Dead Rising 2: Off The Record

Capcom’s Frank West retelling in Dead Rising 2 : Off the Record sounds like a great zombie filled proposition. New areas, weapons, missions, and our favorite wartime photojournalist to boot. All at a bargain price. To sweeten the deal, at the Penny Arcade Expo this week, Capcom announced Sandbox Mode. Finally, you can kill zombies to your heart’s content without having to worry about things like tasks, and time limits. Dead Rising 2: Off the Record will be out on October 11th.

Penny Arcade Adventures: On the Rain-Slick Precipice: Episode 3

Its been almost 3 years since episode 2 came out, and after a long search, Penny Arcade Adventures: On the Rain-Slick Precipice: Episode 3 finally has a developer. Zeboyd Games, makers of retro style throwback games Breath of Death VII, Cthulhu Saves the World, will be taking the reins, and promises to take the series in a new 8-bit direction. Expect episode 3 some time next year.

Mass Effect 3

Mass Effect 3

This week, Bioware’s Director of Marketing, David Silverman revealed that the nifty Mass Effect: Genesis interactive comic that allowed PS3 players to determine key decisions in part one for Mass Effect 2, won’t be a feature in Mass Effect 3. Instead the story will be recapped with two “Previously on Mass Effect” vignettes. So for newcomers to the series, all those pivotal choices, like who dies, who lives, and who sleeps with who, will be already decided for you. Mass Effect 3 will be out on March 6, 2012. That should give you enough time to play through the first 2 games, or at least part 2. On the bright side, the new default female Commander Shepard looks great.

Gears of War 3

Gears of War 3

Like most games nowadays, you can pay upfront for season pass to all the upcoming DLC for a title. Gears of War 3 will be no different. 2400 Microsoft Points will get you access to the first 4 downloadable add-ons for the new Gears. That’s a 33% discount. The first content pack is already slated for November. As an added bonus for those who buy in, will also get the “Liquid Metal Weapon Set”. Gears of War 3 will be out on September 20th.

The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword

The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword

The limited edition version of The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword will come with the obligatory orchestral soundtrack, and a gold-colored Wii Remote Plus. I can’t wait to swing around my golden Wii…remote. The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword will be out on November 20th.

Nintendo 3DS

The first wave of free “I’m sorry for making you pay too much for a system” games came out this week. If you bought a 3DS before the August price drop, and updated or connected to the eShop, go download your 10 free NES virtual console games. Simply connect to the eShop, go to “Settings / Other”, and select “Your Downloads”. Scroll down the list to find your free copies of Super Mario Bros, Metroid, The Legend of Zelda, Wrecking Crew, NES Open Tournament Golf, Donkey Kong Jr., Balloon Fight, Ice Climber, Zelda IIThe Adventure of Link, and Yoshi. There’s still more free games to come in the form of another 10 Gameboy Advance games coming before the end of the year. We’ll let you know when to get your hands on them here at Yell! Magazine.

Persona 4: The Ultimate In Mayonaka Arena

For all you Japan RPG aficionados, your favorite high school simulator / role-playing game is taking all your beloved characters and making them fight each other in Persona 4: The Ultimate In Mayonaka Arena. The game will take the heroes from Persona 4, and Persona 3 and pit them in mortal combat. If you want more Persona, an enhanced version of Persona 4 is coming to the PlayStation Vita. And of course, series developer Atlus is still hard at work on Persona 5. Get all your esoteric J-RPG news here at Yell! Magazine.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3

The contents of the “Hardened Edition” of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 were leaked this week. So what do you get for the extra cash? How about a one year Elite membership that gives you free access to all DLC during the life of the membership. But wait, you also get exclusive emblems, camo, and much much more! Of course it’ll come in a nice shiny metal box with something resembling an art book to boot. That’s all fine and well, but what I’m waiting for is news on the “Prestige Edition”. We’ve gotten night vision goggles, and RC cars. I can’t wait to see how they top that this year. I’m hoping for something more practical, like an army utility vest. That would be sweet!

Red Dead Redemption

Red Dead Redemption

If you’ve been itching to get back into some Red Dead, now’s your chance. Rockstar is giving away the Myths and Mavericks add-on. This DLC includes 11 multiplayer maps, and 8 new playable characters. Magazine

Call of Duty: Black Ops Rezurrection Zombie Map Pack

Rezurrection will be released on August 23rd on the Xbox 360 for 1,200 Microsoft Points. It comes with four remixed, previously released maps, and one new map on the moon. Besides zombies in space, expect new weapons and challenges as well. For those who bought the Hardened or Prestige editions of Black Ops, you get Rezurrection for free.

Mirror’s Edge 2

This game will use the same game engine that Battlefield 3 is running. The first game wasn’t really lacking in the graphics department. Hopefully the controls get an overhauls as well.

Diablo III

Blizzard will let you use real money to buy virtual things in its in-game auction house. In an odd move, Blizzard has stated that they won’t endorse community game mods. And developers are still aiming to release Diablo 3 by the end of this year. But as we all know, release dates are meant to be broken, especially by Blizzard.

Speaking of pushed back release dates, Armored Core V will now be released sometime in 2012, and the Xbox 360 version of The Witcher 2 is also pushed back to 2012.

Super Street Fight IV Arcade Edition

SSF IV Will be getting a free 2012 update. There’s nothing wrong with more character rebalancing and improving online stability, especially when it’s free.

Lollipop Chainsaw

From the makers of No More Heroes and the recent Shadows of the Damned, Warner Bros. will be publishing Grasshopper Manufacture’s new title Lollipop Chainsaw in North America, due to be released sometime in 2012.

Gears of War 3

The Ice-T/Gears of War 3 collaboration continues with the release of the music videoHorde 2.0 Five Against All”.

The House of the Dead: Overkill

The House of the Dead: Overkill will be getting two new levels in the PlayStation 3 re-release. Sega showed off the first of two PS3 exclusive levels. Naked Terror stage is set in a zombie-filled strip club. The only place left to fight zombies is in space, and COD‘s got that covered. The PlayStation Move shooter will be released on October 25th.

True Crime: Hong Kong

The canceled True Crime: Hong Kong got snatched up by Square Enix. Square Enix London will finish the job, and it won’t be called True Crime anymore. No released date yet, but it’s nice to see that the game is still happening.

Another game that might make a comeback from the dead is Quantic Dream’s Infraworld. This game was teased in their last game, interactive drama thriller, Heavy Rain. The name resurfaced when Sony trademarked the name in May. I can go for more intense interactive drama in my gaming. I’m glad they’re getting another go at it.

Batman: Arkham City

So many Batman: Arkham City pre-order skins. I want them all. Unfortunately, no Adam West.

EA Sports

For you sports fans, EA Sports is releasing Season Ticket. With this you get 20% off all EA Sports DLC, and access to a downloadable version of upcoming 2012 EA Sports games a few days before launch. Get your Season Ticket on August 27th for $25.

Borderlands 2

2K Games/Gearbox announced Borderlands 2. Expect new characters, skills, environments, and weapons. It should be released by 2013. This is easily one of my most anticipated games. For more info, Game Informer magazine has the exclusive this month.
