Following multiple reports that the middleweight championship clash between Michael Bisping and the Canadian is currently off, GSP has officially revealed the reason why.

On Friday during a C2 Montréal conference, GSP explained that an eye injury he suffered earlier this year has sidelined him.

Speaking to reporter Justin Kingsley he said,

Trust me, I’m not the kind of guy who thinks, ‘Hey, I’m going to make everybody wait for me. I don’t want to fight during the summer, I want to take my time … That’s not the reason. If it were up to me, I would come back. The reason is I had a problem with my eye. I had an injury. My vision has not been back yet. It will be back. It’s something very minor. The doctor insisted for me that I don’t spar until September.

According to GSP, the promotion was well aware of the injury when he signed a UFC contract back in February.

The UFC was aware of it. They knew I couldn’t fight during the summer, but they still insisted on doing that press conference with Michael Bisping. And when it happened, we were not very excited about the idea, but we wanted that fight, so we decided to do it, but then it turned into a negative thing because it took so long.

But UFC knew. Everyone knew. The people concerned knew that that was the case, but they still tried to put pressure on me to fight in July. That’s the reason why I’m coming out public today about the reason why I’m not fighting this summer.

As for Bisping, the current middleweight champion is also nursing an injured knee, which means the bout could still come to fruition later this year. In the meantime, the UFC decided to book an interim middleweight title fight between Yoel Romero and Robert Whittaker.

The Return Of Georges St-Pierre: A Fan-Made Short Film [VIDEO] https://www.yellmagazine.com/georges-st-pierres-ufc-return-fan-made-short-film-video/117683/ https://www.yellmagazine.com/georges-st-pierres-ufc-return-fan-made-short-film-video/117683/#respond Fri, 28 Apr 2017 22:06:04 +0000 https://www.yellmagazine.com/?p=117683 There’s still no official word on when exactly Georges St-Pierre will turn UFC middleweight champion Michael Bisping into his next unfortunate victim, but if your patience is running thin then maybe it’s time to watch a partial recap of GSP’s MMA career ahead of his 185-pound debut later this year.

A fan-made short film has been just released on YouTube, which details some of GPS’s training routines, including his glory days inside the Octagon against Carlos Condit, Johny Hendricks, and Nick Diaz.

St-Pierre, a two-time welterweight champion, has put on a significant amount of mass to compete with Bisping, who has a big size advantage over the Canadian. The middleweight contest is expected to take place in the main event of UFC 213.

UFC: Georges St-Pierre Is Counting Out Ring Rust Against Michael Bisping https://www.yellmagazine.com/ufc-georges-st-pierre-counting-ring-rust-michael-bisping/117631/ https://www.yellmagazine.com/ufc-georges-st-pierre-counting-ring-rust-michael-bisping/117631/#respond Tue, 25 Apr 2017 13:43:54 +0000 https://www.yellmagazine.com/?p=117631 Georges St-Pierre is returning inside the Octagon, that’s now official. But should GSP get a warm up fight before facing a MMA veteran such Michael Bisping, who has been at his best so far in his career?

Ring rust is one of the many topics discussed for this highly-anticipated fight and it appears like the greatest UFC Welterweight of all-time is also thinking about it in the back of his mind too. However, GSP doesn’t think it will be a major factor in the middleweight clash with Bisping. In fact, he believes after a few minutes inside the Octagon things will be “back to normal.”

In a fan Q&A on Hayabusa’s Facebook page yesterday, GSP addressed the ring rust concern many have following a four-year layoff from the UFC.

He said,

I believe in ring rust. People say there’s no such thing but I believe in ring rust. It will be an issue but I’m a very experienced man. I’m one of the guys that’s spent the most time in the octagon in the UFC, maybe the most, I’m not sure in terms of time. I think because I have a lot of experience, the more time I will spend as the fight goes, the more comfortable I will be. For me, it will be very important [at] the first second of the fight. That’s when I will have to be very aware, very careful. That will be the most dangerous moment for me because when you have ring rust, that’s the hardest part of the fight. When you just step in and the fight start, that’s where the ring rust comes from, the difficulty of adaptation. But after a few minutes, I will be back to normal.

At the moment, Bisping size is a bigger factor for GSP who has previously competed at 170-pounds throughout his UFC career. The former reigning welterweight champion explained that he has been adding weight to deal with the size issue.

When I knew that we were going to fight Michael Bisping, when I signed it, that’s when I decided to try and put [on] a little bit more weight. I won’t be able to put [on] a lot because I’m a natural guy but I’m already a little bit bigger than I was. I’m the biggest I’ve ever been, right now, in my life. Bisping will still be bigger than me but I’m confident it will help…

It’s not my natural size. I’ve never been that big in my life but as a man, I’m gonna be honest, men want to have bigger muscles. They want to be big, so it’s a good thing. I’m happy to be a little bit bigger. [Smiling]. This is not the weight class I’m used to competing at, but for that fight, I want to make history against Michael Bisping. It’s a guy that I want to fight and he wants to fight me. It’s the guy with the highest stock right now and he’s the man to beat, so that’s why I’m doing it.

There’s no fight card or date attached to the middleweight clash Bisping and St-Pierre yet, but we expected the UFC to announce them soon. Stay tuned to Yell! Magazine for the update.

Following the fight, GSP announced his short-lived retirement, and never entered the cage until last week to promote his upcoming middleweight bout with Michael Bisping. That’s right! GSP is now competing at 185-pounds for the first time in his MMA career and it won’t be an easy challenge to overcome. Bisping has been on a stunning winning streak since his victory over C.B. Dollaway at UFC 186. Then had four straight wins over top contender such as Thales Leites, Anderson Silva, Luke Rockhold, and defending the belt against Dan Henderson.

Bisping vs. St-Pierre is expected to headline UFC 213 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas on July 8 as the culmination of International Fight Week. Stay tune to Yell! Magazine for much more updates to come.

UFC: Michael Bisping Believes GSP Thinks He Is An Easy Opponent https://www.yellmagazine.com/ufc-michael-bisping-believes-gsp-thinks-easy-opponent/116309/ https://www.yellmagazine.com/ufc-michael-bisping-believes-gsp-thinks-easy-opponent/116309/#respond Thu, 02 Mar 2017 23:23:55 +0000 https://www.yellmagazine.com/?p=116309 As many of you probably already know by now, former UFC welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre will be making a return in the UFC. His first opponent after a three-year hiatus from combat sport will be Michael Bisping, the current UFC middleweight champion.

Following the big announcement earlier this week from Dana White, Bisping recently revealed that he thinks St-Pierre is overlooking him, like most of his past opponents such as Luke Rockhold and Dan Henderson.

Apparently, Bisping trained with St-Pierre over a decade ago, which may hint at an easy victory for the Canadian.

Bisping said,

He chose me because he thinks he can beat me, I trained with him 11 years ago and he outwrestled me. Now back then I was a kickboxer from England, I didn’t know a double leg from a double decker bus. But every time we trained he’d take me down. He thinks I’m still that guy. He thinks I’m an easy opponent, an easy pick. He picked me to come out of retirement, moving up a weight class, it’s almost like he has nothing to lose, but if he moves up a weight class, he beats me, he becomes a legend.

For all the middleweight fighters who are thinking that Bisping is currently ducking them, the 185-pound king pin had the following to say.

I know there are people out there who are criticizing me. Saying I should fight the number one contender, guys like Yoel Romero, and they’re absolutely right. But, put the question right back to you: If you are Yoel Romero, or Luke Rockhold, or Jacare [Souza] or any of these guys. If you were offered a fight with GSP, I know for a fact you’re going to take that fight. So why shouldn’t I do the same? I deserve this payoff, I deserve this fight, not only for the payday, I want this fight for my legacy.

GSP is clearly the biggest money fight for Bisping right now. So let’s just hope he finally gets his $1 million payday. However, a big payday is the only thing that matters for Bisping, but also his legacy.

I have nothing but respect for Georges. For me, beating Georges St-Pierre, beating Anderson Silva, beating Dan Henderson, beating Luke Rockhold, for me, it really puts an exclamation point on my career.

Georges St-Pierre Set To Face Michael Bisping For Middleweight Belt https://www.yellmagazine.com/georges-st-pierre-set-face-michael-bisping-middleweight-belt/116291/ https://www.yellmagazine.com/georges-st-pierre-set-face-michael-bisping-middleweight-belt/116291/#respond Wed, 01 Mar 2017 22:55:21 +0000 https://www.yellmagazine.com/?p=116291 The word if officially out! Georges St-Pierre is back in the UFC and he also has an opponent set as of Wednesday. UFC President Dana White was the first to brake the news on GSP via an interview on SportsCenter.

Following reports of a new contract deal between the UFC and GSP early last week, a middleweight title bout has been selected for the former reigning welterweight champion. That’s right! St-Pierre will officially square off against Michael Bisping for the 185-pound title. This is fight that Bisping has been lobbying for a while now. Not too long, Bisping called out St-Pierre, and the Canadian accepted the challenge via a post on Instagram.

St-Pierre, 35, is highly regarded as one of the greatest fighters of all time in MMA. While he was the 170-pound champion in the UFC he defeated Johny Hendricks, Nick Diaz, Carlos Condit, Jake Shields, Josh Koscheck, Dan Hardy, and among many others.

A press conference will be held this Friday with both fighters expected to be present. The official fight card number and date is scheduled to be announced shortly.

Georges St-Pierre’s Coach Wants Return Fight Against Michael Bisping or Conor McGregor https://www.yellmagazine.com/georges-st-pierres-coach-return-fight-michael-bisping-conor-mcgregor/116087/ https://www.yellmagazine.com/georges-st-pierres-coach-return-fight-michael-bisping-conor-mcgregor/116087/#respond Tue, 21 Feb 2017 22:02:35 +0000 https://www.yellmagazine.com/?p=116087 Former UFC reigning welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre is officially coming back for another run in the UFC. The Canadian inked a new UFC contract last week, but an opponent has not been announced yet.

However, his longtime coach and friend Firas Zahabi from Tristar is already hinting at two potential fights that could go down for GSP’s return. According to an interview on The MMA hour with Ariel Helwani, Zahabi wants GPS’s return to the UFC to be a big one. Meaning an “ideal scenario” with middleweight champion Michael Bisping or with “The Notorious” Conor McGregor.

Zahabi said,

My ideal scenario, I don’t know if it’s still up for grabs, but I was really happy when there was a buzzing of Bisping or McGregor, I thought those two would be two epic fights. One, he would go a little lower [in weight]; one, he would go a little higher. But those are really, really intriguing fights. Of course, Tyron Woodley, he’s the [welterweight] champion and et cetera, but he has his fight with ‘Wonderboy’ [Thompson]. And if ‘Wonderboy’ wins, then they’ll have a trilogy. And of course we don’t want to fight with ‘Wonderboy,’ we go way back together.

So I think the welterweight title is not really something he (St-Pierre) is thinking about right now because of the current landscape, but there is always the 185-pound belt. And of course, McGregor is such a mega-star that if you put those two on a main event, I don’t think that anybody in the world wouldn’t watch that. I think that even non-MMA fans would watch that. But again, I don’t do the match-ups, I don’t do the managing, I’m just talking as a trainer.

GSP, 35, is a three-time former Welterweight Champion of the UFC, having won the title twice in 2006 and 2008, as well as an Interim title in 2007. He holds wins over Johny Hendricks, Nick Diaz, Carlos Condit, Jake Shields, B.J. Penn, Matt Serra, and among many others.

GSP’s return fight is expected to be announced by the UFC in the upcoming weeks. Stay tuned to Yell! Magazine for the update.

Georges St-Pierre Officially Back Under The UFC Umbrella https://www.yellmagazine.com/georges-st-pierre-officially-ufc-umbrella/116014/ https://www.yellmagazine.com/georges-st-pierre-officially-ufc-umbrella/116014/#respond Sat, 18 Feb 2017 16:59:16 +0000 https://www.yellmagazine.com/?p=116014 Canada’s biggest MMA draw has finally come to a contract agreement with the UFC after months of negotiations. This also means there’s a good chance the UFC is returning to Canada with an epic fight card in the not too distant future.

On Friday, accredited MMA sources have reported that Georges St-Pierre has officially inked a new contract with the UFC following a three year hiatus. That’s right! The former UFC welterweight champion will step inside the Octagon, potentially gunning for the 170-pound belt again or simply just back for epic superfights. There’s no short or longer term plan set in stone yet, but there’s already speculation on who GPS could face in the upcoming months.

UFC middleweight champion Michael Bisping called out GSP a few months ago, so a fight between the both of them is highly possible. With a new ownership on-board, the UFC is currently seeking big money fights that will generate a good amount of income for them. UFC’s biggest stars such as Ronda Rousey and Conor McGregor are currently off the shelf for an undetermined time, the promotions obviously needs big names more than ever and GSP is definitely one of them.

The Canadian mixed martial artist has victories over Carlos Condit, Nick Diaz, Jake Shields, B.J. Penn, Matt Hughes, and Jon Fitch, among others. He defended the welterweight belt 9 times during his reign in the UFC.

UFC President Dana White Open To Increase Georges St-Pierre’s Pay https://www.yellmagazine.com/ufc-president-dana-white-open-giving-georges-st-pierre-money/114170/ https://www.yellmagazine.com/ufc-president-dana-white-open-giving-georges-st-pierre-money/114170/#respond Fri, 09 Dec 2016 00:37:04 +0000 https://www.yellmagazine.com/?p=114170 While Georges St-Pierre is focusing on balancing the revenue distribution between the promoter and fighter through a newly formed group called the Mixed Martial Arts Athletes Association (MMAAA), UFC President Dana White has recently indicated out of the blue that there could be some room for flexibility on GSP’s pay.

In a radio show interview on Chad Dukes vs. the World, White stated that GSP still remains under contract with the UFC, but is now open to give the former welterweight champion more money if he is “reasonable.”

White said,

I have a good relationship with Georges and yeah, obviously, we would love him to fight. The problem is, Georges has a deal. Georges is under contract with us right now. He has a deal. I’m not afraid to give Georges St-Pierre more money, but it’s got to be reasonable.

GSP is currently making a leap in combat sport through the MMAAA alongside top UFC stars such as Cain Velasquez, Tim Kennedy, and TJ Dillashaw. He informed MMAFighting.com that negotiations between him and the UFC have not been resolved yet.

At the moment, GSP still believes he’s a free agent.
