The Gojira camp just released a new video from the album, for the beautiful and ethereal track “Born in Winter.” Appropriately, the video is literally ethereal as it shows an animated version of what I’m interpreting to be a visualization of the Big Bang. If you’ve been following space/theology news, then you know this video is also apropos because ripples from the big bang were found in space.

But let’s not get into all that (we’ll save it for Thanksgiving Dinner with the family). Just enjoy the track, and if you like it, then buy the damn album: CD – $12.95 or MP3 – $11.49.

Gojira: Live At Garorock (2012) – Yell! Magazine’s Full Concert Series https://www.yellmagazine.com/gojira-live-at-garorock-full-concert/66244/ https://www.yellmagazine.com/gojira-live-at-garorock-full-concert/66244/#respond Sat, 31 Aug 2013 03:14:31 +0000 https://www.yellmagazine.com/?p=66244 It’s changing, but Gojira is one of those bands that largely flies under the radar. The band is known and respected in metal circles, but as soon as you talk to peripheral fans, you’ll see a lot of blank expressions. The recognition problem might have something to do with the band’s lack of big, bouncy choruses and their “relative” newness. Instead of catchy hooks, Gojira relies on superb musicianship and honest heaviness in their brand of Death Metal. But the lack of a gimmicky trend is no reason for this band to be ignored; many other bands have garnered recognition from that awkward place between mainstream and genre fandom.

I know I said Gojira is “relatively” new, but the fact is that they formed way back in 1996, under the moniker of Godzilla. For legal reasons, in 2001 Godzilla had to change their name to Gojira, which means Godzilla in Japanese anyways. They’ve since released five studio albums and two DVDs, the video above being from The Flesh Alive DVD. The performance is comprised of three shows, Garorock Show, Les Vieilles Charrues Show, and Bordeaux Show, all recorded and released on DVD in 2012.

There’s no doubt in my mind that serving up this full concert on your Friday night will kick your ass into overdrive.

Gojira is being backed by the Devin Townsend Project and The Atlas Moth on the L’Enfant Sauvage tour. Tickets go on sale October 26 and 27. If you’d like more tour information, visit Gojira-Music.com. See below for the tour dates.

If you like what France’s Gojira has to offer, then you should really check out their countrymen in Eryn Non Dae. Hailing from Toulouse, the quintet brings dark, somber, technical, and heavy tones to their brand of heavy metal, which is nothing short of amazing. It’s a great mix of death, metalcore, tech death, and prog metal, in case you were wondering what to expect. And even if you’re not a fan of some of those genres, Eryn Non Dae. deliver it all in a very palatable manner.

Heavy MTL 2012: Gojira – A Monster Interview With Mario Duplantier https://www.yellmagazine.com/gojira-interview-mario-duplantier-heavy-mtl-2012/38419/ https://www.yellmagazine.com/gojira-interview-mario-duplantier-heavy-mtl-2012/38419/#respond Wed, 15 Aug 2012 05:10:19 +0000 https://www.yellmagazine.com/?p=38419 Gojira was clearly a highly anticipated band at Heavy MTL 2012. We scored an interview with drummer Mario Duplantier, who gave us some background on the band’s name and the reason for the change from Godzilla. He also gave us some European insight on the Randy Blythe situation and what the future holds for Gojira since the tour with Lamb of God has been cancelled.

Mario Duplantier

Gojira was one of the bands I was most excited to see at Heavy MTL, and I was really stoked to land an interview with Mario Duplantier. I was also really impressed with the audience response to them and how they literally flocked to the stage like moths to a flame. Their set burned bright, and was nothing short of spectacular.

L’Enfant Sauvage by GOJIRA on Grooveshark

Gojira played just seven songs, which was at least seven songs too short and left me feeling like a high schooler unable to close the deal. Three of the songs were from their latest album, L’Enfant Sauvage, and the rest spanned their three most recent albums. The set, however, was structured to impress; it displayed their brutality (“The Heaviest Matter of the Universe”) and their technical prowess (“Oroborus”; “Explosia”), and sometimes both at the same time (“Backbone”). While Gojira’s set was too short, it was perfect in the sense that it introduced the band to many people who’ve probably never heard of them, and it left everyone wanting more.

gojira l'enfant sauvageGojira’s L’Enfant Sauvage (released June 26, 2012) is an amazing album. It’s receiving a ton of critical praise and it’s potentially the metal album of the year. If you haven’t already, you need to check it out.
