Job for a Cowboy – Yell! Magazine https://www.yellmagazine.com Where Subcultures Collide™ Mon, 03 Jul 2017 19:28:02 +0000 en-US hourly 1 https://wordpress.org/?v=4.8 10 Explicit Music Videos – We’re Out For Blood https://www.yellmagazine.com/10-explicit-music-videos-were-blood/59840/ https://www.yellmagazine.com/10-explicit-music-videos-were-blood/59840/#comments Sat, 28 May 2016 15:16:37 +0000 https://www.yellmagazine.com/?p=59840 First off, when we say explicit music videos, we mean explicit. Many of the videos on this list contain buckets of blood, nudity, depictions of rape and murder, and, yes, even animal cruelty. If you have a problem with any of that, then you better just turn around and go back the way you came.

Second thing, we don’t participate in, condone, or suggest that any of our readers take part in any acts that are violent (don’t murder or rape anyone), that are demeaning or dehumanizing, that are disrespectful, or that are cruel to, well, anything. Basically, don’t do this shit at home.

The way we see it, these explicit music videos are collaborative expressions of the bands and directors making them. Whether the videos are artistic or not is not for us at Yell! Magazine to decide.

We did a similar list before, Top 10 Gory, Disturbing, And F#@%ed Up Music Videos, but those videos, while definitely disturbing, were less shocking than what we’re presenting today. This time out, we sought out some of the goriest explicit music videos in existence. Just like in exploitation films, there’s graphic depictions of disembowelment, rape, satanic ritual, copious amounts of blood, cannibalism, and more.

Again, before we get started with this list of explicit music videos, if you have a weak stomach, are easily offended, or you have a pacemaker, leave now! The horrors on display here are unlike those seen in an Alice Cooper or GWAR show.

No.10 “Chop Chop” – The Panic Beats

Chop Chop by The Panic Beats from Dustin Mills on Vimeo.

Let’s start with something light, at least musically it’s light compared to the other songs on this list. With a pop-punk, Ramones-like sound, The Panic Beats have produced basically a short movie, complete with an exploitation-style title shot. Stalking, tortuous murder, and nudity – it’s a literal bloodbath.

No.9 “(s)AINT” – Marilyn Manson

OK, so putting Marilyn Manson on this list of explicit music videos is either a no-brainer or really stupid. It might not be as violent as other videos here, but explicit sex, graphic drug use, cutting, masturbation, blood, yeah, maybe it’s a no-brainer. This video was also directed by Asia Argento, daughter of horror legend Dario Argento.

No.8 “Worlock” – Skinny Puppy

Yes, you’re still being eased into the real gory videos on this list. I think the electro-industrial influence of Skinny Puppy is evident in many bands that followed, and while the video for “Worlock” may not have been composed of original footage, it was brutally violent for 1990. The video contains a vocal sample of Charles Manson reciting lines from The Beatles’ “Helter Skelter,” and scenes from many horror movies, including Deep Red, Suspiria,Tenebrae, Combat Shock, Phenomena, Opera, The Beyond, Hellraiser II, Bad Taste, Dead & Buried, Luther The Geek, Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer, From Beyond, Parents, Death Warmed Up, Intruder, and Altered States. “Worlock” was banned worldwide.

No.7 “Mein Herz Brennt” – Rammstein

Rammstein’s “Pussy” is a more explicit music video than “Mein Herz Brennt” (“My Heart Burns”) is, but this video is a visual mind-blower. With a The Cell meets Eyes Wide Shut vibe, this video makes no qualms about exploring, well I’m not entirely sure what it’s exploring. However, there are imprisoned children, some weird surgery, self-cannibalization, and something supernatural.

No.6 “Tarnished Gluttony” – Job for a Cowboy

Yes, this video contains an explicit disembowelment, but the whole scene only takes about two minutes in the nine minute video. What’s most disturbing is the father sacrificing his son.

Vocalist Jonny Davy explains the Michael Panduro-directed video:

“‘Tarnished Gluttony’ originally runs off the idea of blind faith into our government and monetary system. The director ran with the idea and spliced it with a H.P. Lovecraftian twist. The video streams the fascination of religion and the actions people justify in the name of religion, and this video is a spin on the old biblical tale of Abraham and Isaac, however, set in the world of Lovecraftian mythology. The point is, acting blindly in faith to a Christian deity is just as absurd as worshiping squid like monsters from space who live under the sea.”

Job For A Cowboy’s Nick Schendzielos Releases “1000s Funking Dead Bass Shenanigans” https://www.yellmagazine.com/job-cowboys-nick-schendzielos-releases-1000s-funking-dead-bass-shenanigans/73544/ https://www.yellmagazine.com/job-cowboys-nick-schendzielos-releases-1000s-funking-dead-bass-shenanigans/73544/#respond Tue, 26 Nov 2013 15:01:03 +0000 https://www.yellmagazine.com/?p=73544 Bringing together the worlds of James Cameron’s Terminator and Frank Darabont’s The Walking Dead, as well as pop culture and terrorism, Job for a Cowboy‘s Nick Schendzielos has released a new bass video on his YouTube channel, Bassfordays.

The video for “Ol Dirty Wizard-1000’s Funking Dead Bass Shenanigans” features zombies; pop culture icons and their vocal samples (James Brown, Michael Jackson, David Lee Roth, Fred Durst, and Prince); masks from HyperFlesh’s Landon Meier (who’s Walter White mask made huge waves at Comic-Con when Bryan Cranston wore the mask); and Nick as a cyborg, bass-playing Osama bin Laden. Musically, the track includes a sample from Terminator, but the primary bass line in the first half of the track is clearly inspired by The Walking Dead.

“Ol Dirty Wizard-1000’s Funking Dead Bass Shenanigans” is just fun to watch and hear, but it also makes a statement, pointing a subtle finger at Halliburton. And in addition to possibly saying that bin Laden’s followers were mindless zombies, I have to think that the video also says that we are mindless zombies as well, easily distracted by the media and celebrities.

Schendzielos commented:

I’m extremely brammed to release this latest video. Working with Matthew Zinke and Landon Meier has really brought this whole video thing to another level creatively for me. The visual imagery is astonishing and I can’t wait for folks to see what we have in store. Some seriously amazing guest musicians are going to featured in the next installments… maybe even the top guitarist in metal? Stay tuned!

Mayhem Fest 2013 – Amon Amarth, Behemoth, Battlecross & Job For A Cowboy Added https://www.yellmagazine.com/mayhem-fest-2013/52103/ https://www.yellmagazine.com/mayhem-fest-2013/52103/#respond Tue, 19 Mar 2013 14:31:23 +0000 https://www.yellmagazine.com/?p=52103 The summer metal festivals are gearing up and releasing news about their lineups, and they keep adding to them. So far, Hellfest 2013 looks like an amazing place to be, and the Rockstar Energy Drink Mayhem Fest, 2013, is proving to be no slouch either. Most recently, Mayhem 2013 added Amon Amarth, Behemoth, Battlecross, and Job for a Cowboy to what’s already a stellar lineup:

Rob Zombie, Five Finger Death Punch, Mastadon, Machine Head, Butcher Babies, Huntress, Children of Bodom, Emmure, Born of Osiris, Motionless in White, Thrown into Exile, City in the Sea, and more to come.

Amon Amarth will be touring in support of their upcoming new album, which will be their ninth studio release. The album title, art, deluxe pre-order bundles, and new music will be revealed within the next few weeks. Guitarist Olavi Mikkonen comments:

“Amon Amarth is excited to be part of this summer’s Rockstar Energy Drink Mayhem Festival. We can’t think of a better way to spend the summer than raging and pillaging across North America in real Viking style!”

Battlecross are currently at Audiohammer Studios with producer Mark Lewis to record their sophomore album. New music, art, and other new album info will be unveiled over the next few months, leading up to the festival.

Battlecross

In addition to the Rockstar Energy Drink Mayhem Fest, Battlecross had previously confirmed their appearance at this year’s Orion Music & More Festival in their hometown of Detroit, Michigan.

Job for a Cowboy. Currently, the band is in Europe headlining Bonecrusher Fest with Beneath the Massacre, War From A Harlots Mouth, and more. Following Europe, they will join Hatebreed and Every Time I Die for an April tour that culminates with a performance at the 15th annual New England Metal and Hardcore Festival.

Heavy MTL 2012: Job For A Cowboy Interview With Pirate Jonny Davy [VIDEO] https://www.yellmagazine.com/job-for-a-cowboy-interview-jonny-davy-video/38460/ https://www.yellmagazine.com/job-for-a-cowboy-interview-jonny-davy-video/38460/#respond Thu, 16 Aug 2012 18:58:29 +0000 https://www.yellmagazine.com/?p=38460 When we sat down to talk to Jonny Davy of Job for a Cowboy, the band had recently finished its set at Heavy MTL 2012 – and man was he rank smelling. I kid of course, but he hadn’t showered yet. If you’re a metal chick who likes sweaty metal heads, here’s a moment for you to reflect…

Ok, times up.

Obviously, we talked about Job’s latest album, Demonocracy, but we also touched on the band’s lyrical styles, which deviate from death metal’s normal themes. And despite the gravity of their lyrics, Job for a Cowboy is a surprisingly fun band. Don’t get me wrong, fun doesn’t mean that they’re not heavy – they’re heavy as fuck. They also do what I like in my heavy music, they have intricate parts that are amazingly detailed. I especially love discovering those parts when I’m already familiar with a song.

Job For A Cowboy - Jonny Davy Interview at Heavy MTL

Jonny Davy and I also talked about music piracy. In researching the interview, I came across something he said about piracy that intrigued me and struck me as the best defense I’ve ever heard, so I had to follow up with him on it. Also, don’t get me wrong again, I’m against pirating albums. I think fans should buy albums and support the bands they love and the labels (yes, the evil labels) because they are the ones who market the bands and help them tour to your neck of the woods. You should also buy merch. And that’s the end of my soapbox speech.

Enjoy the video interview with Jonny Davy of Job for a Cowboy.
