It’s the biggest MMA news of the week, so here is what we know so far.

According to multiple online sources, including MMAFighting.com, the UFC is targeting a rematch between UFC light heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier and former champion Jon Jones for UFC 214 in July. The highly-anticipated fight will headline the card after a co-main event, which is expected to be announced very soon.

Three days before UFC 200, Jones tested positive for two banned substances, Clomiphene and Letrozole, in an out-of-competition drug test conducted by USADA. Jones was expected to defend the 205-pound title against Cormier. Since their first match at UFC 182, Cormier has won four straight fights over top ranked UFC fighters such as Anthony Johnson, Alexander Gustafsson, and Anderson Silva. He just defended the title earlier this month against Johnson and won via submission (rear-naked choke).

UFC 214: Cormier vs. Jones 2 is targeted for July 29 in Anaheim, Calif.

Daniel Cormier On Jon Jones: “You Cheated. I know What You Did” https://www.yellmagazine.com/daniel-cormier-jon-jones-you-cheated-did/117182/ https://www.yellmagazine.com/daniel-cormier-jon-jones-you-cheated-did/117182/#respond Wed, 05 Apr 2017 13:51:35 +0000 https://www.yellmagazine.com/?p=117182 Former UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones is expected to make a return later this year following a one-year suspension from USADA for testing positive for estrogen blockers in a pre-fight drug test ahead of UFC 200. With that in mind, current dominant champion Daniel Cormier and No.1 contender Anthony Johnson have no choice, but have him on the radar since there’s a good chance one of them will be forced to defend the belt against Jones in the very near future.

While doing an interview to promote UFC 210, Johnson mentioned that Jones’ presence in the UFC will “always be around, regardless of what happened.” That comment didn’t sit too well with Cormier, who vented some bitter frustration toward his former rival.

You kind of expect it, but there’s only one problem with Anthony’s answer, I think we’ve got to stop saying, ‘Regardless of what happened.’ We know what happened. We know exactly what he did. So when we say stuff like, ‘Regardless of what happened,’ or we don’t state the facts, it’s almost like we’re sweeping it under the rug. We know what he did. We know the bad things that he did. We know that he tried to cheat. We know all this stuff. So I get annoyed because I’m like, ‘Why are you asking me about a guy that, three days before we were supposed to fight, pissed hot?’ That’s the stuff that annoys me, not the fact that he’s a good fighter. He’s a great fighter.

According to Cormier, he knows exactly what happened with Jones and chooses not to forget any of his reckless past, regardless if Jones is considered the greatest light heavyweight ever.

You cheated. You also smashed into somebody’s car and ran away. I know what you did. If everybody else wants to ignore it, they can. I’m not.

Cormier meets Johnson this Saturday night at UFC 210 for a light heavyweight title rematch. The event will be held on April 8, 2017 at the KeyBank Center in Buffalo, New York.

Jon Jones Suspended For A Year For UFC 200 https://www.yellmagazine.com/jon-jones-suspended-year-ufc-200/113456/ https://www.yellmagazine.com/jon-jones-suspended-year-ufc-200/113456/#respond Mon, 07 Nov 2016 23:45:38 +0000 https://www.yellmagazine.com/?p=113456 Former UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones is feeling a little more optimistic these days following his doping case hearing for UFC 200. He could return in the Octagon as early as July 2017.

USADA announced on Monday that Jones will only be suspended for a year for taken banned substances ahead of his UFC 200 title fight with Daniel Cormier. The decision suggested that Jones unintentionally took the substances by accepting a sexual-performance pill given to him by a teammate. He was deemed “reckless” for not complying with the UFC anti-doping policy.

Jones released a full statement and appears to be happier for not being labeled as a “cheater” for taking performance-enhancing drugs.

Although I was hopeful for a better outcome in the USADA ruling today, I am very respectful of the process in which they allowed me to defend myself. I have always maintained my innocence and I am very happy I have been cleared in any wrong doing pursuant to the allegations made that I had intentionally taken a banned substance. I am pleased that in USADA’s investigation they determined I was “not a cheater of the sport”. Being cleared of these allegations was very important to me. I have worked hard in and outside of the octagon to regain my image and my fighting career and will take these next eight months to continue my training and personal growth both as a man and a athlete. Thank you to all of my fans, teammates, coaches, sponsors and to the UFC for their continued support.

Jones is now eligible to return on July 7, 2017, but he is still facing sanctions from the Nevada Athletic Commission.

Yeah, I would be honored to main event against Daniel Cormier at Madison Square Garden. The question is, you know will Daniel Cormier accept that fight. Daniel Cormier has had a lot of mental struggles when it comes to me and uh…” (laughs) “…that’s just one more thing that he doesn’t need. I’m sure he doesn’t want to fight me in my backyard, because he needs all the mental breaks he can get. So, who knows. I doubt he’d fight me at Madison Square Garden. But like I said, I’ll fight him wherever. The Oklahoma State wrestling room, his living room, whatever. – Jon Jones

UFC 197: Jon Jones Will Face Ovince Saint Preux In Main Event https://www.yellmagazine.com/ufc-197-jon-jones-face-ovince-saint-preux-main-event/107720/ https://www.yellmagazine.com/ufc-197-jon-jones-face-ovince-saint-preux-main-event/107720/#respond Sun, 03 Apr 2016 13:08:51 +0000 https://www.yellmagazine.com/?p=107720 UFC 197: OSP

The main event of UFC 197 has been saved folks, and it only took a few hours for the UFC to find a new opponent for former UFC light heavyweight champion, Jon Jones.

Following the withdrawal of Daniel Cormier yesterday from UFC 197, Jones released a video clip on Instagram, expressing his desire to fight – against anyone – in the main event. Meaning Jones was even willing to fight at heavyweight for the first time in his MMA career.

I figured this would put a few smiles on some faces today @UFC

A video posted by Jon Bones Jones (@jonnybones) on

And now a new challenge for Jones is officially set in stone. Yesterday evening, UFC President Dana White announced on ESPN that a bout between Jones and No. 6 ranked light heavyweight contender Ovince Saint Preux is the new main event. The contest will also be for the interim light heavyweight belt.

White said,

Jon has never lost his title in the Octagon. He was stripped of his title because of problems outside. It was the right thing to do… he will fight for the light heavyweight interim title.

OSP is currently coming off a win over Rafael Cavalcante via a unanimous decision in February. He has won three of his last four fights with his first UFC loss to Glover Teixeira mixed in. Under the Zuffa owned banner, OSP has wins over Mauricio Rua and Patrick Cummins.

UFC 197: Jones vs. Saint Preux will be held on April 23, 2016 at MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Jon Jones Arrested Again, His Management Team And UFC Release Statements https://www.yellmagazine.com/jon-jones-arrested-again-management-team-ufc-release-statements/107542/ https://www.yellmagazine.com/jon-jones-arrested-again-management-team-ufc-release-statements/107542/#respond Wed, 30 Mar 2016 00:12:37 +0000 https://www.yellmagazine.com/?p=107542 Former UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones hasn’t changed much after all. Following the release of a bodycam video from the Albuquerque police for when Jones was ticketed for his alleged drag racing citation, he was later arrested in New Mexico for a probation violation.

Jones’ management team released the following statement about his recent arrest,

Jon and his team are taking this very seriously, and we will let the legal process play out. We are confident he will be released once he has an opportunity to explain to the judge the facts in this case.

The UFC also released the following statement,

UFC is aware that Jon Jones turned himself into the Albuquerque Police Department this morning for a potential probation violation stemming from a traffic stop last week. UFC has been in touch with Jones’ legal team and will have no further comment until the organization has had appropriate time to gather necessary information.

Jones was taken into custody on Tuesday at 10 a.m. local time. He was arrested by officers from Probation & Parole, and taken directly to the detention center. Jones remained in custody as of Tuesday afternoon. No bail has been set.

At the moment, there’s no official word if Jones will face UFC light heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier at UFC 197. We’ll keep Yellers updated as soon as the UFC makes an announcement.
