About Turbo Kid

It’s 1997. In a ruined post-apocalyptic world, the orphaned Kid survives on his own through drought-ridden nuclear winter, traversing the Wasteland on his BMX, scavenging for scraps to trade for a scant supply of water. When his perpetually chipper, pink-haired new best friend Apple is kidnapped by a minion of evil overlord Zeus, the Kid summons the courage of his comic book hero and prepares to deliver turbocharged justice to Zeus, his buzzsaw-handed sidekick Skeletron, and their vicious masked army.

Filming appears to be well underway for Turbo Kid, a Canadian splatter comedy based on the fan-favorite ABCs of Death short T is for Turbo. Production kicked off earlier this month and one of the film’s key stars has already wrapped up his evildoing.

Last week, we broke news that Michael Ironside was spotted in Montreal and all geared up for his role as “Zeus,” the self-proclaimed leader of the Wasteland in Turbo Kid. According to Executive Producer Jason Eisener (Hobo with a Shotgun) and team RKSS, Ironside wrapped up “Zeus” and said his goodbyes to the set of Turbo Kid over Easter weekend.

Yesterday was Michael Ironside’s last day with us on set. Working with him was truly a blast, and we feel very privileged. For the occasion, we share with you a second frame of the movie: Michael Ironside as Zeus, Eisener said via Facebook.

Turbo Kid is a Canadian (EMAfilms) and New Zealand (T&A Films) co-production that also stars Munro Chambers (Degrassi – The Next Generation, Cracked) as The Kid, Laurence Leboeuf (19-2, Trauma) as Apple, Aaron Jeffery (X-Men Origins) as Frederic, Edwin Wright (Top of the Lake) as Skeletron, and Romano Orzari (Omertà) as Bagu.

Although, Ironside’s part is now complete, more filming for Turbo Kid is expected to take place in Montreal.

“Turbo Kid” Finds A Home With EMAfilms To Produce Feature Length Film https://www.yellmagazine.com/turbo-kid-signs-canadian-producer-feature-length-film/40162/ https://www.yellmagazine.com/turbo-kid-signs-canadian-producer-feature-length-film/40162/#respond Tue, 11 Sep 2012 02:01:38 +0000 https://www.yellmagazine.com/?p=40162 Fantastic news just gushed through our already bloody news gate in regard to a small project titled Turbo Kid. You might remember hearing about this a while ago, but let me refresh that tasty brain of yours.

Do you remember that competition for The ABCs of Death that sought to find the 26th director to helm in a feature-length film? The one presented by Drafthouse Films, with the letter “T” assigned to various independent directors to push a short film beyond the boundaries of hell? It was also the one where the judges of that competition didn’t see eye to eye with the voters, and selected the wrong friggin’ winner in my opinion. No disrespect to Lee Hardcastle, who garnered the first-place win with T is for Toilet, but the one that had my thumbs up, and I mean way up, was for T is for Turbo (aka, Turbo Kid). It came in a measly third. It was a disappointing announcement that day, one that the Montreal filmmakers, RKSS (Roadkill Superstar), likely will never forget.

Turbo Kid: RKSS with Jason Eisener, and Ant Timpson
Anouk Whissell, Yoann-Karl Whissell, Ant Timpson, François Simard, and Jason Eisener at the 2012 Fantasia Film Festival.

Luckily, one of the judges on that jury, my finger is pointing to Canadian director Jason Eisener (Hobo with a Shotgun, Treevenge), has been a fan of RKSS since the release of Le bagman, and a fake trailer titled Demonitron: The 6th Dimension. Jason Eisener and Ant Timpson (producer of The ABCs of Death) went on a mission to seek out a deal during the 2012 Fantasia Film Festival to turn the fully written Turbo Kid script from RKSS into a feature-length film.

Now, a month after the close of Fantasia, an announcement was made today that the Turbo Kid project is officially signed with a Montreal-based film production company, EMAfilms, to produce the film along with Ant Timpson and Jason Eisener as executive producer.

Ant Timpson commented that he was:

“…excited to collaborate with Anne-Marie from EMAfilms who ‘gets’ the project. After I saw RKSS’ hilariously gory post-apocalyptic BMX short T FOR TURBO during THE ABCS OF DEATH short film competition, I knew I needed to work with them on expanding it to a feature. TURBO KID is like the ultimate video mix-tape put together by an ’80s movie obsessive after 20 energy drinks.”

Jason Eisener added:

“The RKSS crew have been a huge inspiration over the years and it’s a pleasure to help them get their first feature film off the ground. Now the Turbo team is assembled with a full charge and ready to blast awesomeness onto the screen!”

With all this to say, and regardless of the outcome of The ABCs of Death, team RKSS has this chance of a lifetime to bring Turbo Kid to life, and we’re looking forward to seeing the finished product, which may come earlier than expected.

It’s a short film created by the horrorhound team at RKSS (also known for DEMONITRON: The 6th Dimension faux trailer) and fiends for The ABCs of Death (26 DIRECTORS | 26 WAYS TO DIE) filmmakers competition. The grand prize is USD $5,000, and for someone to be the 26th director for The ABCs of Death feature film. That sounds f’ing brilliant to me.

As you will be able to tell, the creators have worked very passionately on the concept (as simple as it is) and on the production, which is far superior than some of the other entries. So give these guys a hand and submit your vote for T is for Turbo before October 31, 2011 by following the link below.
