Lombardo commented:

Everything about Dead Cross screams aggression. I have no idea what kind of chaos it will conjure on stage or in the audience… but I know it’s going to be a hell of a good time. Really looking forward to hitting the road with these guys.

The late summer outing kicks off on August 10th, at The Observatory in Santa Ana, California, and includes a stop at Riot Fest Chicago. Tickets are on-sale this Thursday at 10 a.m., local time. See the list of dates below.

Metaller Headbangs To Slayer During Hurricane Matthew [VIDEO] https://www.yellmagazine.com/metaller-headbangs-slayer-hurricane-matthew-video/112713/ https://www.yellmagazine.com/metaller-headbangs-slayer-hurricane-matthew-video/112713/#respond Sun, 09 Oct 2016 23:58:57 +0000 https://www.yellmagazine.com/?p=112713 Hurricane Matthew is a pure fucking disaster. I feel sorry for anyone who has to experience this deadly cyclone. On October 6, U.S. President Barack Obama declared a Federal state of emergency for Florida, later extending to include Georgia and South Carolina.

Most sane residents evacuated instantly, but one metaller took matters into his own hands with a bit of help from a metal band named Slayer. While Hurricane Matthew hit land, this dude cranked up Slayer’s fan favorite song “Raining Blood” and headbanged his way through the thick rain and strong winds. It was pure insanity, but he stood his ground like a champion.

Check out his viral video clip to see it with your own eyes. By the way, it’s Reign In Blood‘s 30th anniversary. What a way to celebrate the epic album!

Slayer Concert Review, Metropolis Montreal (2016-09-13) https://www.yellmagazine.com/slayer-concert-review-metropolis-montreal/112063/ https://www.yellmagazine.com/slayer-concert-review-metropolis-montreal/112063/#respond Tue, 20 Sep 2016 02:17:54 +0000 https://www.yellmagazine.com/?p=112063 When Slayer plays, Slayer delivers and people show respect. That’s how it is on a big festival stage and, as I learned last week, that’s how it is in a smaller venue, which is what I was looking forward to. See, since first seeing Slayer at Ozzfest back in 1998, I’ve only ever seen the thrash metal giants on the big stage and I really wanted to see how they were in a more intimate environment.

I was not disappointed.

Photos by King Hazard.

The fans, who all night dominated the scene in their Slayer shirts for openers Death Angel and Anthrax, packed it in tight, and the humidity in the venue was tropical, to say the least. The body odor was as intense as it would be in a 10×10 room packed with 30 comicconers just after getting their picture taken with Carrie Fisher.

Pit, sweat, maybe a little blood, Slayer played 20 songs that spanned their formidable career, and all of it was incredible. Of course, Season in the Abyss being my favorite album, I was thrilled to hear the album’s highlights played, despite having seen Slayer play the album in its entirety.

I can tell you until I’m blue in the face how awesome it was to see Slayer on this tour, but I’ll just leave you with this piece of advice: Get out there and fucking Slayer live!

Slayer Setlist:

Repentless
The Antichrist
Disciple
Postmortem
Hate Worldwide
War Ensemble
When the Stillness Comes
You Against You
Mandatory Suicide
Fight Till Death
Dead Skin Mask
Chemical Warfare

Death Angel will be touring in support of their newest full-length, The Evil Divide, released earlier this Spring via Nuclear Blast Records. The Evil Divide was recorded at AudioHammer studios in Sanford, Florida, with producer Jason Suecof (Trivium, Deicide), who previously worked on 2010’s Relentless Retribution and 2013’s The Dream Calls for Blood. Mastering duties were handled by Ted Jensen at Sterling Sound in New York City.

Three decades into their celebrated career, Death Angel remains as hungry as ever. As a result, uncompromising urgency and unpredictability drive The Evil Divide. The group — vocalist Mark Osegueda, lead guitarist Rob Cavestany, guitarist Ted Aguilar, drummer Will Carroll, and bassist Damien Sisson — satiate the appetite for buzzsaw speed riffs, double bass mayhem, and scorching vocals over the course of 10 new anthems.

The Evil Divide stands out as the culmination of 30-plus years of music for Death Angel. It kicked off with legendary debut, The Ultra-Violence, in 1987. The classic Frolic Through the Park began to cement their legacy and even earned the distinction of landing on Loudwire’s list of the “Top Ten Thrash Albums NOT Released By The Big 4.” The group broke up following 1990’s Act III only to reunite in 2004 on Art of Dying for the next generation.

In 2008, Death Angel teamed with producer Nick Raskulinecz (Foo Fighters, Alice In Chains, Rush, Mastodon) for *Killing Season recorded at Dave Grohl’s Studio 606. In 2010, Relentless Retribution boasted a cameo from virtuosos Rodrigo y Gabriela, while 2013’s The Dream Calls for Blood bowed at #72 on the Billboard Top 200, selling 5,400 copies first-week and earning the group’s first-ever entry onto that respective chart.

New Slayer! “You Against You” Now Streaming https://www.yellmagazine.com/slayer-you-you-streaming/103400/ https://www.yellmagazine.com/slayer-you-you-streaming/103400/#respond Tue, 08 Sep 2015 04:35:34 +0000 https://www.yellmagazine.com/?p=103400 slayer you against you

Slayer is streaming their new song, “You Against You,” at ScionAV.com. Go check it out and report back to us with your thoughts. Until then, here are a couple thoughts we had: Before the track hits full Slayer stride, it sounds like The Offspring, especially that opening guitar riff. Of course, it could just be Slayer hearkening back to their punk roots.

The song, which is from the band’s forthcoming album Repentless (September 11th, Nuclear Blast), will also be available as a limited run of 7” vinyl records in January.

Danny Trejo To Star In Slayer Video https://www.yellmagazine.com/danny-trejo-star-slayer-video/103140/ https://www.yellmagazine.com/danny-trejo-star-slayer-video/103140/#respond Fri, 28 Aug 2015 12:35:54 +0000 https://www.yellmagazine.com/?p=103140 danny_trejo_slayer

This just makes sense. He’s a slayer with a machete, and they’re, well, Slayer. We’re obviously talking about the recent news from Peruvian site El Cuartel Del Metal that iconic film star Danny Trejo has been caught in a picture while on set with Slayer.

It’s not confirmed yet for which track the music video was shot, but be sure that we’ll let you know as soon as we find out. Nonetheless, Slayer’s new album, Repentless, will see release on September 11th.

Amnesia Rockfest 2015: Slayer (Show Review) https://www.yellmagazine.com/amnesia-rockfest-2015-slayer-show-review/101402/ https://www.yellmagazine.com/amnesia-rockfest-2015-slayer-show-review/101402/#respond Thu, 02 Jul 2015 00:53:33 +0000 https://www.yellmagazine.com/?p=101402 This being about the fourth time that I’ve seen Slayer live since 1998, I simply can’t say much that’s negative about their performance. The fact is that each and every time that these thrash metal titans step up to the plate, they hit a homerun.

Their sound is always perfect, meaning that the mix is excellent, the tone is spot on, and the levels are album precise. I don’t think that I’ve ever seen a fuck up in term of feedback or blown amps or dropped PA systems… and I’ve certainly never seen a band member correcting a sound guy.

Their show at Amnesia Rockfest 2015 was no different. Truly, Rockfest couldn’t go wrong booking these guys.

Sure, there’s not a lot of action going on up on the Slayer stage, but we’re not watching Slayer for a theatrical performance. The most theatrical I ever saw them, however, was back in 1998, at Ozzfest, when they had two big video screens showing graphic videos and images of surgical practices and actual war injuries. Theatrical is probably the wrong term for that… it was more shocking, morbid, and grotesque than anything.

The one thing I’ll say about Slayer’s show on Saturday, June 20th, is that for the first time the absences of Jeff Hanneman and Dave Lombardo were apparent. Don’t get me wrong, Paul Bostaph and Gary Holt are doing a fantastic job, especially Holt’s war on the Kardashians, but there’s a noticeable difference in sound.

Regardless, I don’t think these guys got much more mileage in the tank, so you better see them as often as possible while you can. And if you’ve never seen Slayer, what the fuck are you waiting for?

Solidarity is far stronger than jumping ship and going somewhere else. I thought we’d still be on American — but when we got the offer from American, I was insulted. That, to me, just said, ‘Good luck, you’re not gonna have good luck here anymore.’ So we found our new friends at Nuclear Blast. – Slayer co-founder and guitarist, Kerry King

New Slayer! “When The Stillness Comes” – Hear It Now! https://www.yellmagazine.com/slayer-when-stillness-comes/98367/ https://www.yellmagazine.com/slayer-when-stillness-comes/98367/#respond Thu, 16 Apr 2015 20:17:28 +0000 https://www.yellmagazine.com/?p=98367 It’s a little earlier than the foretold Record Store Day release, but who’s going to complain about the sooner-than-expected release of a new Slayer track? You? C’mer! I cast thee to eternal damnation in hell!

The new track is titled “When the Stillness Comes” and careful ears will hear a Seasons-era sound well-balanced with a late-’90s Slayer era. There’s no word yet on the forthcoming album’s title or even when it will be released, but you can bet your ticket to hell that we’ll let you know as soon as we hear anything. However, Slayer did tell Rolling Stone that they’ve rerecorded “Implode” and “Atrocity Vendor” for the album, and other song titles include “Take Control,” “You Against You,” “Chasing Death,” “Cast the First Stone,””Pride,” and “Vices.”

Until further notice, play “When the Stillness Comes” until your ears bleed!
