We are sad to report iconic actress Carrie Fisher, who played Princess Leia in the Star Wars franchise also died on Tuesday morning at 60-years-old.

According to online sources, Fisher was taken to hospital after suffering from cardiac arrest during a flight from London to Los Angeles on Friday, but she never recovered.

Her family spokesman, Simon Halls, released the following statement:

It is with a very deep sadness that Billie Lourd confirms that her beloved mother Carrie Fisher passed away at 8:55 this morning. She was loved by the world and she will be missed profoundly. Our entire family thanks you for your thoughts and prayers.

Before passing away Fisher published a memoir called The Princess Diarist and appeared as an elderly Princess Leia in last year’s Star Wars: The Force Awakens. In addition, a 3D rendering of a younger Leia also appeared in the conclusion of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.

Donald Glover Casted In Upcoming Han Solo Star Wars Standalone Film https://www.yellmagazine.com/donald-glover-casted-upcoming-han-solo-star-wars-standalone-film/113012/ https://www.yellmagazine.com/donald-glover-casted-upcoming-han-solo-star-wars-standalone-film/113012/#respond Sat, 22 Oct 2016 17:29:04 +0000 https://www.yellmagazine.com/?p=113012 Guess who will be playing the young Lando Calrissian in the upcoming Han Solo Star Wars standalone film? Well fans, it will be none other than Donald Glover, who is best known for appearing in the Community, Atlanta, and Scott Ridley’s The Martian.

Lucasfilm made the announcement on Friday that the part of young Lando Calrissian is officially taken by Glover. He will join Alden Ehrenreich — previously cast as Han Solo — in bringing two iconic Star Wars characters back to the big screen, but at a time in their lives previously unexplored. The still-untitled Han Solo Star Wars film will be helmed by directors Phil Lord and Christopher Miller.

We’re so lucky to have an artist as talented as Donald join us,” said Lord and Miller. “These are big shoes to fill, and an even bigger cape, and this one fits him perfectly, which will save us money on alterations. Also, we’d like to publicly apologize to Donald for ruining Comic-Con for him forever.

According to the press release, the new film “depicts Lando in his formative years as a scoundrel on the rise in the galaxy’s underworld — years before the events involving Han, Leia, and Darth Vader in The Empire Strikes Back and his rise to Rebel hero in Return of the Jedi.”

The Han Solo movie is set for release in 2018.

The Most Iconic Props From Star Wars https://www.yellmagazine.com/most-iconic-props-star-wars/111941/ https://www.yellmagazine.com/most-iconic-props-star-wars/111941/#respond Wed, 14 Sep 2016 15:01:15 +0000 https://www.yellmagazine.com/?p=111941 The Star Wars universe is built largely on the back of its celebrated characters. From Luke to Rey, and with dozens of noteworthy characters in between, these are figures that film fanatics have identified with, cheered for, and in some cases rooted against for years. But as brilliant as the people of the Star Wars saga are, this is also a franchise that’s done a wonderful job of popularizing props like ships, weapons, suits, and more that are entirely out of this world.

We’ve written at length about the Millennium Falcon, which is arguably the most famous ship from the entire series. It’s a bizarre and inventive, “hunk of junk” of a ship that seems to be one-of-a-kind. It’s also among both the fastest and most durable vessels in the Star Wars universe. But here we’ll take a brief look over some of the other objects that stand out as having genuinely contributed to the franchise’s success.

The X-Wing

Millennium Falcon

Millennium Falcon

If the Millennium Falcon is the most iconic ship from Star Wars, the X-Wing is hot on its heels. The difference, of course, is that this ship wasn’t one-of-a-kind, but rather was the chosen vessel for the Rebel fleet. Still, it’s hard to imagine Star Wars without these speedy little fighter ships and their accompanying sound effects. And to give you an idea of just how much fans still appreciate these ships, CNET, which sometimes delves into tech-related, pop culture news, posted a fascinating article about an original X-Wing model selling at auction this summer. Apparently, the model—which was from A New Hope and sized a bit like an elongated golf cart—sold to the top bidder for $160,000.

The AT-AT

This won’t be all about vehicles, but only seems fair to mention an Imperial vessel as well. There’s probably not one that was more unique than the AT-AT. Standing for All Terrain Armored Transport, these were the massive, four-legged land destroyers best known for roaming around Hoth during The Empire Strikes Back. In truth, these are pretty silly vehicles and are laughably vulnerable. But then, that same vulnerability led to one of the great Star Wars battle scenes, which has been recreated in numerous video games and was even imitated in the recent film Captain America: Civil War, which Spider-Man used his webs to tie up the legs of a giant, clumsy Ant-Man.

Luke’s Lightsaber

Luke's Lightsaber

Luke’s Lightsaber

Really, any lightsaber is significant, but Luke’s original blue one is hard to beat in terms of representing the Star Wars saga. In fact, according to an article at Lottoland, the prop itself is actually worth more to fans than an entire X-Wing! That site is used mostly for lottery games and strategies, but sometimes discusses fun ways to spend a fortune (for those who might actually win a lottery). Thus, this article looked at some high value film memorabilia, and mentioned that Luke’s original lightsaber sold for $240,000 at auction!

Han’s Blaster

Essentially a laser gun, Han Solo’s blaster might not be quite as unique as a lightsaber—but it’s almost as valuable to fans. The same post referenced with regard to Luke’s lightsaber mentioned that Han’s original blaster actually went for a whopping $200,000. In this case, that’s largely a result of who wielded the weapon. It’s a weird steampunk-looking weapon, but in Han Solo’s hands it was a deadly and exciting gun (especially when it shoots first).

Boba Fett’s Jetpack

Boba Fett's Jetpack

Boba Fett’s Jetpack

Boba Fett is one of the most popular second-hand villains in cinematic history, and it’s largely because of what he looks like. Sure, he puts up a pretty good fight in Return Of The Jedi, and his father made a chilling appearance in the prequel trilogy, but the real reason everyone loves Boba Fett is that his suit was awesome. And that was largely a result of his high-powered, ornamental jetpack, which pretty much made this character Iron Man almost 30 years before Robert Downey Jr. took flight.

Darth Vader’s Helmet

“It’s the face of evil.” That’s how this legendary helmet was described in a look back at the history of Star Wars in 10 objects, and there’s not really a better way to put it. Darth Vader might be the single defining fictional villain of our time, and his mask/helmet is as representative of this saga as anything and remains an iconic symbol in the films today.

The fun thing about looking back at a list like this is wondering how it might change in the coming years. Depending on how the new trilogy goes, we could well be adding things like Rey’s staff or some as-yet-unseen Imperial ship to the collection. But for now, these are some of the objects that have been as crucial to Star Wars lore as the characters themselves.

Mondo has partnered with Acme Archives to create and offer licensed prints for Star Wars and Indiana Jones, two of the greatest film series of all time.

In 2010, Mondo artists created a stunning limited run of original works of art based on the original Star Wars trilogy, which included the now iconic triptych of minimalist brilliance by artist Olly Moss. Mondo is is now returning to the galaxy far far away and will also be producing its first ever film prints for everyone’s favorite archaeologist. As part of the Mondo-Acme relationship, fans can also expect limited-edition products from their favorite DreamWorks Animation properties, The X-Files and more.

Mondo Creative Director Mitch Putnam states:

We’ve been a fan of Acme Archives and what they do for years. I think this partnership presents a really great opportunity for new properties, new artist relationships, and overall, a really exciting bunch of releases.

The new partnership with Acme kicks off with an amazing print from artist Mike Mitchell, profiling Luke Skywalker in X-Wing flight gear. This is the first in a series of Star Wars profiles from Mitchell. The 12×16 giclee print, titled “Red Five,” will be available as a timed sale for 72 hours starting on Thursday, March 17.

Mike Mitchell states:
Despite being a pop-culture powerhouse, Star Wars never ceases to inspire me due to its breadth of wonderfully original and creative characters. I’m excited to have the opportunity to show you my favorites. I think if you’re a fan of Star Wars, you’re going to enjoy what’s in store.

The only down side here is it’s a bit short and it’s not official, but it’s completely fan-made, which means it’s packed with effort and passion. Unlike some of George Lucas’s latest Star Wars episodes.

Darth Maul is easily a fan-favorite character among the villains in the Star Wars franchise, so I’m pretty sure most of you will enjoy every minute of this short film. It’s a little over 17 minutes, so you’ll have plenty to watch.

What are you waiting? Hit the play button and embrace Darth Maul: Apprentice right now!

Star Wars Battlefront Beta Extended Until Tomorrow https://www.yellmagazine.com/star-wars-battlefront-beta-extended-tomorrow/104264/ https://www.yellmagazine.com/star-wars-battlefront-beta-extended-tomorrow/104264/#respond Mon, 12 Oct 2015 22:36:19 +0000 https://www.yellmagazine.com/?p=104264 Star Wars: Battlefront

DICE is adding an additional day of testing to their ongoing beta phase of Star Wars Battlefront. This means Star Wars fans can continue playing the multiplayer portion of the game until Tuesday, October 13, 2015. Initially scheduled to end on October 12, the extended beta testing will allow DICE to conduct further technical tests on the infrastructure before they launch the sci-fi shooter next month.

DICE said on the Battlefront website,

Every time you log on, it’s helping us ensure the experience is going to be great at launch. As we get into the late stages of the beta, we will begin conducting further technical tests on our infrastructure.

These additional tests will start on Monday, October 12 and will run through Tuesday, October 13th, which will add an additional day to the open Beta. These tests are to help us find some extreme scenarios, and that means some players may experience occasional issues such as being kicked from the game or losing connectivity. This is all being done in the name of shoring up our infrastructure before we launch on November 17th.

Star Wars Battlefront officially launches on November 17, 2015 on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and Windows PC. If you want to try the beta out for yourself, then use these download links to start playing right now.
