Ahead of its run in the midnight lineup of the festival, IGN got their hands on a first Turbo Kid clip featuring Zeus (Michael Ironside) and his sick little gadgets, a homemade blender with flames. I guess something is supposed to happen when Zeus yells “Blades and Fire”, but things don’t go as planned for the sadistic leader.

About Turbo Kid

It’s 1997. In a ruined post-apocalyptic world, the orphaned Kid survives on his own through drought-ridden nuclear winter, traversing the Wasteland on his BMX, scavenging for scraps to trade for a scant supply of water. When his perpetually chipper, pink-haired new best friend Apple is kidnapped by a minion of evil overlord Zeus, the Kid summons the courage of his comic book hero and prepares to deliver turbocharged justice to Zeus, his buzzsaw-handed sidekick Skeletron, and their vicious masked army.

Filming appears to be well underway for Turbo Kid, a Canadian splatter comedy based on the fan-favorite ABCs of Death short T is for Turbo. Production kicked off earlier this month and one of the film’s key stars has already wrapped up his evildoing.

Last week, we broke news that Michael Ironside was spotted in Montreal and all geared up for his role as “Zeus,” the self-proclaimed leader of the Wasteland in Turbo Kid. According to Executive Producer Jason Eisener (Hobo with a Shotgun) and team RKSS, Ironside wrapped up “Zeus” and said his goodbyes to the set of Turbo Kid over Easter weekend.

Yesterday was Michael Ironside’s last day with us on set. Working with him was truly a blast, and we feel very privileged. For the occasion, we share with you a second frame of the movie: Michael Ironside as Zeus, Eisener said via Facebook.

Turbo Kid is a Canadian (EMAfilms) and New Zealand (T&A Films) co-production that also stars Munro Chambers (Degrassi – The Next Generation, Cracked) as The Kid, Laurence Leboeuf (19-2, Trauma) as Apple, Aaron Jeffery (X-Men Origins) as Frederic, Edwin Wright (Top of the Lake) as Skeletron, and Romano Orzari (Omertà) as Bagu.

Although, Ironside’s part is now complete, more filming for Turbo Kid is expected to take place in Montreal.

Michael Ironside To Appear In Turbo Kid Feature Film https://www.yellmagazine.com/michael-ironside-turbo-kid-feature-film/82300/ https://www.yellmagazine.com/michael-ironside-turbo-kid-feature-film/82300/#respond Sat, 12 Apr 2014 17:29:25 +0000 https://www.yellmagazine.com/?p=82300 Michael Ironside

That’s right, folks! Michael Ironside, the man with one of the most distinguishable Canadian voices of all-time in the movie and video game industry, also a legend who appeared as a villain in numerous sci-fi films like Total Recall and Scanners, will add another sadistically incorrect role to his list with a part in Turbo Kid. Based on the T is for Turbo short by the Montreal Collective known as the Road Kill Super Star (RKSS) (Anouk Whissell, François Simard, and Yoann-Karl Whissell), the feature film went into production two weeks ago.

Ironside has been selected to play “Zeus,” previously played by Quebec actor Yves Corbeil in T is for Turbo. The main villain in this post-apocalyptic comedy, alongside other actors such as Munro Chambers, Aaron Jeffery, Laurence Leboeuf, Edwin Wright, and Romano Orzari.

Turbo Kid, a Canadian (EMAfilms) and New Zealand (T&A Films) co-production, is currently being filmed in Montreal. We have more proof of that right below and it’s a bloody mess again! Check it out!

More on Turbo Kid

In a post-apocalyptic parallel future of 1997, an orphaned teenager called The Kid scavenges the Wasteland searching for relics from a better time (the ’80s). During one of his expeditions he meets Apple, a mysterious girl with a rather large secret.

As their relationship deepens, they accidentally run afoul of Zeus, the self-proclaimed leader of the Wasteland. Zeus, a sadistically droll maniac who murdered The Kid’s parents, now controls the Wasteland’s most precious commodity: fresh water. When Zeus’ gang kidnaps Apple, The Kid joins forces with Frederick, the laconic leader of the legendary Arm-Wrestling Clan. Armed with little more than blind faith and an ancient turbo-charged weapon, The Kid must fulfill his ultimate destiny: destroy Zeus, avenge his parents’ death and get the girl of his dreams.

“Turbo Kid” Finds A Home With EMAfilms To Produce Feature Length Film https://www.yellmagazine.com/turbo-kid-signs-canadian-producer-feature-length-film/40162/ https://www.yellmagazine.com/turbo-kid-signs-canadian-producer-feature-length-film/40162/#respond Tue, 11 Sep 2012 02:01:38 +0000 https://www.yellmagazine.com/?p=40162 Fantastic news just gushed through our already bloody news gate in regard to a small project titled Turbo Kid. You might remember hearing about this a while ago, but let me refresh that tasty brain of yours.

Do you remember that competition for The ABCs of Death that sought to find the 26th director to helm in a feature-length film? The one presented by Drafthouse Films, with the letter “T” assigned to various independent directors to push a short film beyond the boundaries of hell? It was also the one where the judges of that competition didn’t see eye to eye with the voters, and selected the wrong friggin’ winner in my opinion. No disrespect to Lee Hardcastle, who garnered the first-place win with T is for Toilet, but the one that had my thumbs up, and I mean way up, was for T is for Turbo (aka, Turbo Kid). It came in a measly third. It was a disappointing announcement that day, one that the Montreal filmmakers, RKSS (Roadkill Superstar), likely will never forget.

Turbo Kid: RKSS with Jason Eisener, and Ant Timpson
Anouk Whissell, Yoann-Karl Whissell, Ant Timpson, François Simard, and Jason Eisener at the 2012 Fantasia Film Festival.

Luckily, one of the judges on that jury, my finger is pointing to Canadian director Jason Eisener (Hobo with a Shotgun, Treevenge), has been a fan of RKSS since the release of Le bagman, and a fake trailer titled Demonitron: The 6th Dimension. Jason Eisener and Ant Timpson (producer of The ABCs of Death) went on a mission to seek out a deal during the 2012 Fantasia Film Festival to turn the fully written Turbo Kid script from RKSS into a feature-length film.

Now, a month after the close of Fantasia, an announcement was made today that the Turbo Kid project is officially signed with a Montreal-based film production company, EMAfilms, to produce the film along with Ant Timpson and Jason Eisener as executive producer.

Ant Timpson commented that he was:

“…excited to collaborate with Anne-Marie from EMAfilms who ‘gets’ the project. After I saw RKSS’ hilariously gory post-apocalyptic BMX short T FOR TURBO during THE ABCS OF DEATH short film competition, I knew I needed to work with them on expanding it to a feature. TURBO KID is like the ultimate video mix-tape put together by an ’80s movie obsessive after 20 energy drinks.”

Jason Eisener added:

“The RKSS crew have been a huge inspiration over the years and it’s a pleasure to help them get their first feature film off the ground. Now the Turbo team is assembled with a full charge and ready to blast awesomeness onto the screen!”

With all this to say, and regardless of the outcome of The ABCs of Death, team RKSS has this chance of a lifetime to bring Turbo Kid to life, and we’re looking forward to seeing the finished product, which may come earlier than expected.

The ABCs Of Death Announces Contest Winner “T Is For Toilet” https://www.yellmagazine.com/the-abcs-of-death-contest-winner-t-is-for-toilet/23929/ https://www.yellmagazine.com/the-abcs-of-death-contest-winner-t-is-for-toilet/23929/#respond Tue, 15 Nov 2011 20:00:07 +0000 https://www.yellmagazine.com/?p=23929 Today THE ABCs OF DEATH made the long-awaited announcement that T IS FOR TOILET is the winner of the horror film contest. Lee Hardcastle is the creator of this four-minute short film, and will be the 26th director to include his work in a feature film alongside some of the genre’s most talented new blood like: Jason Eisener (Hobo with a Shotgun), Srdjan Spasojevic (A Serbian Film), and Xavier Gens (Frontiers, Hitman) just to name a few.

Lee Hardcastle will also snag up a whopping $5,000 (USD) from the win to help him in his creative journey as the “next great horror filmmaker.”

You can read the full official announcement right below.

The ABCs Of Death Official Winner Annoucement

Drafthouse Films, Magnet Pictures, and Timpson Films have announced today T IS FOR TOILET by Lee Hardcastle as the winner of their contest to find the “next great horror filmmaker,” which finalized the lineup for THE ABCs OF DEATH – a highly anticipated anthology film featuring segments directed by over two dozen celebrated filmmakers in what Fangoria calls, “a stunning roll call of some of the most exciting names in horror across the world.” Inspired by children’s educational books, the feature is comprised of 26 individual chapters, each helmed by a different director assigned a letter of the alphabet. The directors were given free reign to choose a word to represent a form of death based on their letter. THE ABCs OF DEATH will be released through Magnet Releasing in 2012.

T IS FOR TOILET was an early submission to the contest, setting the benchmark for future entries and has since become a viral sensation from reporting genre websites and blogs. UK-based Lee Hardcastle utilized claymation to tell the nightmarish tale of a frightened young boy and his first attempt using the bathroom all by himself.

Submissions for the contest closed on October 1st, with 170 submissions from all over the world and over 50,000 votes cast from the public. After the public vote narrowed the field to 13 finalists, the 25 additional filmmakers of THE ABCs OF DEATH voted on the winning film.

“We are delighted that T IS FOR TOILET was as popular with the other directors as it was with the public,” says co-producer Ant Timpson, “and we are thrilled that Hardcastle’s work will be seen alongside modern horror’s greatest filmmakers.” Co-producer Tim League added, “We are extremely happy about the quality of many of the shorts and were impressed with the emerging talent in the genre scene.”

The competition was neck and neck to find the winning film with four outstanding runners-up that included in 2nd place T is for Talk, by Peter Haynes, 3rd place T is for Turbo, by François Simard, Anouk Whissel and Yoann-Karl Whissel, 4th place T is for Table, by Shane Free and 5th place T is for Termite, by Steve Daniels. Finalists will be invited to be included in the DVD/Blu-ray release for THE ABCs OF DEATH.

It’s a short film created by the horrorhound team at RKSS (also known for DEMONITRON: The 6th Dimension faux trailer) and fiends for The ABCs of Death (26 DIRECTORS | 26 WAYS TO DIE) filmmakers competition. The grand prize is USD $5,000, and for someone to be the 26th director for The ABCs of Death feature film. That sounds f’ing brilliant to me.

As you will be able to tell, the creators have worked very passionately on the concept (as simple as it is) and on the production, which is far superior than some of the other entries. So give these guys a hand and submit your vote for T is for Turbo before October 31, 2011 by following the link below.
