In anticipation, the band has released the title track, which is a vicious aural assault… even if there is a hip-hop flow to Phil Bozeman‘s vocals. (Actually, that flow that he has is nothing new and doesn’t take anything away from their brutality.) Catch the track in the player above.

Gruesome Video Alert: Whitchapel’s “Let Me Burn” https://www.yellmagazine.com/gruesome-video-alert-whitchapel-let-me-burn/96338/ https://www.yellmagazine.com/gruesome-video-alert-whitchapel-let-me-burn/96338/#respond Thu, 26 Feb 2015 22:08:55 +0000 https://www.yellmagazine.com/?p=96338 Mich Massie has a penchant for directing disturbing music videos, and he’s damn good at it. He’s already worked with the likes of Cattle Decapitation and The Dillinger Escape Plan to give you a visceral feeling of sickness from the visual onslaught. His latest work is with Whitechapel for their video “Let Me Burn,” and let us tell you that it’s truly gruesome and not for the faint of heart.

Whitechapel vocalist Phil Bozeman explains:

The basis of the video is about a man, his wife, and daughter. The story depicts the degradation of the man and him going insane. He kills his wife and eventually douses himself in gasoline and begs his daughter to strike the match. But the whole point of the story is that the man has everything he wants and needs, but has no control over his mind and suffers with clinical insanity/schizophrenia and regrets everything he has done.

Guitarist Alex Wade adds:

It’s our first time trying a story-based video versus a performance video with us playing, and we’re really happy with how it came out. Phil’s idea for the concept of the video mixed with Mitch Massie’s directing developed a very dark and sinister feel that represents the song well.

Whitechapel will be back on the road beginning February 28th. The tour will take the band from Memphis through the Midwest on their way to Self Help Fest in San Bernardino, California. Self Help Fest is scheduled for March 7th at the Nos Event Center and features The Devil Wears Prada, Pierce the Veil, Stick to Your Guns, The Ghost Inside, and more. New Music: Whitechapel Debuts “Worship The Digital Age” [VIDEO] https://www.yellmagazine.com/new-music-whitechapel-debuts-worship-digital-age-video/86012/ Thu, 12 Jun 2014 18:07:37 +0000 https://www.yellmagazine.com/?p=86012 Whitechapel just dropped the pretty awesome video for the absolutely brutal track, “Worship the Digital Age.” Now, it is a performance video, but director David Brodsky did something interesting with it, making it much more interesting than the average “band in a warehouse” affair and relevant to the song’s actual theme.

About the video, guitarist Alex Wade stated:

We’re excited to release the first performance video from our new release Our Endless War titled “Worship the Digital Age. The video was shot and edited in Brooklyn, N.Y. by the great David Brodsky.

“Worship the Digital Age” marks the third official single from the band’s fifth and highly acclaimed studio album, Our Endless War. The album hit the #10 spot on the Billboard Top 200 Chart.

Whitechapel continues their trek with DevilDriver, Revocation, Carnifex, Rivers of Nihil, and Fit For An Autopsy tonight in New York City. The rest of the tour dates follow:

Whitechapel’s “Our Endless War” Captures Live Intensity [VIDEO] https://www.yellmagazine.com/whitechapels-our-endless-war-captures-live-intensity-video/84538/ https://www.yellmagazine.com/whitechapels-our-endless-war-captures-live-intensity-video/84538/#respond Thu, 15 May 2014 03:30:32 +0000 https://www.yellmagazine.com/?p=84538 This is awesome. I was listening to Whitechapel‘s latest album, Our Endless War, just the other day. It wasn’t my first time with the album, which was released two weeks ago, but I did take note of the album’s title track and its powerful lyrics. Now I get the pleasure of seeing the new music video for the track.

For a live/performance video it’s pretty good since director Naughty Mantis actually captured the intensity Whitechapel puts into their shows. What’s really funny, however, is how just before they’re about to take the stage to deliver some blistering heavy metal, a band member remembers to take the van keys out of his pocket. Just normal everyday guys before unleashing chaos.

In other Whitechapel news, the band kicked off their North American tour tonight, May 14th, in St. Louis, Missouri, with Revocation and Rivers of Nihil supporting. Tomorrow night, the three bands head to Kansas City, Missouri, before meeting up with DevilDriver on May 17th for a co-headlining tour. Support on that tour will come from Revocation, Carnifex, Rivers of Nihil, and Fit for an Autopsy. See below for a complete list of dates.

Whitechapel’s Phil Bozeman Talks New Album, Mitch Lucker, Crazy Fans, And Justin Timberlake [Interview] https://www.yellmagazine.com/phil-bozeman-interview/82702/ https://www.yellmagazine.com/phil-bozeman-interview/82702/#respond Thu, 17 Apr 2014 04:19:14 +0000 https://www.yellmagazine.com/?p=82702 whitechapel - band pic, close

Whitechapel has released four albums since their formation in 2006, and we’re currently about two weeks away from the April 29th release of the death metal outfit’s fifth studio effort, Our Endless War. The album might be a slight diversion from the band’s roots, but don’t worry, it’s every bit as brutal and pummeling as you’d want from a Whitechapel album. And it’s not without its hard, often pessimistic lyrics.

We had the chance to chat with friendly and personable founding member and vocalist Phil Bozeman about the upcoming release, the band’s current and future tours, Mitch Lucker, and guilty pleasures.

Enjoy our Phil Bozeman interview!

whitechapel - our endless war - album coverWhitechapel’s new album, Our Endless War, is due out shortly. How are you feeling at this point?
I’m excited for everybody to hear the new album and give us their feedback on it.

Can you tell us about the album’s title and what it means to you?
It pertains to war and life in general being a war and going through a bunch of hardships in life and stuff of that nature. I feel like it’s a representation of us as humans and just trying to get through life and living the best life we can.

There’s a lot of diversity on the new album, would you say that’s the representation of how you guys have matured as a band?
Yeah, I feel like our music writing ability and chemistry as a band has grown over the years and it’s kind of become second nature to us. We’re all fine-tuned with each other and our chemistry is so good that we just kind of do this, not effortlessly, but with a competent mindset.

You guys did more work with the three guitars on this album, how has that changed the dynamic versus the old-school way of approaching metal?
It allows us to play live what we do on the CD; we have two guitars harmonizing with a lead over it you know it’s something we can actually do. If there’s three guitar tracks going over a part in a song, we actually pull that off live. It just gives more diversity to the band and a lot more elements we can put into it.

“Mono” has some touchy lyrics: “Stop whining for a better life, just kill yourself… No one cares, kill yourself.” Can you explain the song’s meaning and if you had any concerns about including those lyrics?
That song is kind of like you’ve just had enough. You’re just tired of everything in life. You’re tired of people talking about you, people never accepting you for who you are, and constantly criticizing you and never giving you credit for the things that you really do. It has a lot to do with the emotions about not fitting in… basically it’s a big Fuck You to the world, honestly. It’s almost like when you feel alone, by yourself, you don’t really have anyone to depend on and you go into a dark state of mind.

Is there a connection to Internet trolls on “Mono,” given your attack on technology in “Worship the Digital Age”? Is there a connection between the songs?
Yeah, there’s always some sort of connection. The Internet is full of people, keyboard warriors that just say anything that’s on their mind because there’s no consequences to it, there’s no face-to-face confrontation, and you can speak anonymously. You don’t have to let anyone know who you are, but you can put in your two cents and not have to face any repercussions from it. It’s just stupid that people waste their time to say this music sucks and that sucks, and it’s like if you’re so concerned about what a band is doing or if you don’t care about a certain band, then why are you talking about it? If I don’t care about something, I just don’t pay attention to it. I think it’s just a natural instinct in people to have a hatred toward something.

Do you have a hatred toward technology because of the topics covered in “Worship the Digital Age”?
No. I don’t hate technology by any means. The thing with technology is that it’s kind of embellishing a curse. There’s different aspects of it; people see people on TV screens, idols, famous people, they like what they do, and even on our level people are kind of crazy and overcome with it. It’s one of those things where you need to realize that we’re all human beings, nobody’s better than the other person, it’s just they do something you enjoy, and if you take it to the level of worshiping it and living your life by it, what are you living in your body for? Why are you living your life? There’s a difference between a fan and somebody who’s just completely obsessed and living their life by it. You should never devote your life to an artist or anything like that because at the end of the day what are they doing for you except giving you good music to listen to? That’s no reason to give your life to them. People treat certain celebrities like gods and it’s unbelievable that people can be that obsessed with someone. That’s where you just draw the line and ask are you even happy with your life? If you’re not, then you need to fix that.

At the same time, a lot of fans, especially metal finds, find refuge in the music and hope and inspiration from the lyrics, would you agree with that?
Yeah, I mean we’re not necessarily the most positive bands in the world, but I feel like this album is definitely one of those negatively positive, you know vice versa, kind of albums. It’s kind of like the realness of it, and just the emotions behind it.

What else inspires you outside of music?
Inspiration just really comes from the drive and passion to be a musician and to express feelings and emotions. Just growing up listening to metal, just loving what I heard and wanting to be a part of that and use that inspiration to create my own music. It’s nice to have the chance to do that, and not that many people get the chance to do that in their lifetime.

The two most recent announcements include the news that Whitechapel will embark on a co-headlining tour with DevilDriver and the first in-studio video clip (in the player above).

The new album, Our Endless War, is scheduled to be released on April 29th, via Metal Blade Records

About the upcoming tour with DevilDriver, Whitechapel stated:

We’re stoked to announce our tour with good friends DevilDriver. We’ve played several shows with them before and really enjoy performing and hanging out with them and believe that combining together to make one big brutal tour only made sense. Rounding out the rest of the bill are other incredible acts Carnifex and Revocation, with two hot up-and-coming death metal bands Rivers of Nihil and Fit for an Autopsy. Can’t wait to take this tour across the country and decimate every city!”

Whitechapel will have an additional tour prior to co-headlining with DevilDriver. This one gets going on April 16th, and includes a stop at the New England Metal & Hardcore Festival on April 18th.

Whitechapel Announces New Album + Track Listing & Art https://www.yellmagazine.com/whitechapel-announces-album-track-listing-art/79170/ https://www.yellmagazine.com/whitechapel-announces-album-track-listing-art/79170/#respond Thu, 27 Feb 2014 02:07:53 +0000 https://www.yellmagazine.com/?p=79170 Today, February 26, 2014, deathcore juggernauts Whitechapel announced their fifth full-length album, and also revealed the album’s track list and artwork. The new album, Our Endless War, will be released on April 29th in North America.

Whitechapel Our Endless WarMake sure to check out the brutality of the first single, “The Saw Is The Law,” in the player above. Note Phil Bozeman‘s wicked flow starting at 1:19 in the song — it’s really addictive to the ears. If you like what you’re hearing, you can pre-order the new album via www.metalblade.com

About the new album, guitarist Alex Wade said:

We are excited to announce our fifth full length studio album, Our Endless War. In typical Whitechapel fashion, this CD takes the sound we have been developing over the past eight years of our career and pushes it to new levels. We want each record we release to sound different, and this one is no exception. With dashes of every record we have done so far mixed with the intensity of a new sound, this record is sure to please fans of Whitechapel, old and new.

When it came to tracking the album the band considered no one beyond Mark Lewis, who helmed Whitechapel. “Making the self-titled record went so well, we loved the way it came out, our label loved the way it came out, and our fans kept telling us that it was our best sounding record so it would have been stupid not to work with him again!” laughs guitarist Alex Wade.

For the artwork, the band turned again to Aaron Marsh, who supplied Whitechapel with its stark, arresting imagery, but again they wanted to push things to the next level. “With the sound maturing we felt like the artwork needed to reflect that. We also introduced a new logo – our old logo is classic Whitechapel, and that’s not something we plan on getting rid of, but as the band grows and changes we felt like we needed the logo to represent the maturity of this new Whitechapel.”

Leading up to the release of Our Endless War, Whitechapel has confirmed a string of dates, see below, including an appearance at this year’s New England Metal & Hardcore Festival. Whitechapel’s The Somatic Defilement Gets Remastered https://www.yellmagazine.com/whitechape-somatic-defilement-remastered/50628/ https://www.yellmagazine.com/whitechape-somatic-defilement-remastered/50628/#respond Wed, 27 Feb 2013 02:07:37 +0000 https://www.yellmagazine.com/?p=50628 whitechapel_coverI’m not sure how much recording standards have changed in the last five years, but apparently enough for Whitechapel to remaster, remix, and reissue their 2007 debut, The Somatic Defilement. Check out the new recording above and get the details below.

Whitechapel‘s debut full-length album, The Somatic Defilement, is the album that firmly planted the band on an upward trajectory that has carried the band to the upper echelons of modern death metal. The band has taken The Somatic Defilement and placed it in the capable hands of Audiohammer Studios producer Mark Lewis for a complete remix, along with a remastering by Alan Douches. The results are staggering and give The Somatic Defilement a modern luster that’s up to the standards of the band’s most recent recordings.

You can pre-order now at metalblade.com/whitechapel.

The Somatic Defilement, originally released in 2007, is a concept album about Jack the Ripper’s infamous murders of prostitutes in East London’s Whitechapel district. This 2013 re-release sees the band tasking producer Mark Lewis to painstakingly bring the 6-year-old recording to today’s standard.
