A few new pictures from the set of Zack Snyder’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice have rolled in. There’s nothing exceptionally exciting about them, but they do show Henry Cavill as Clark Kent outside the Gotham City jail. Wonder who he was visiting or what the story is that sharp reporter is working on. The pics appeared yesterday via HenryCavillNews and Bananadoc.

Watch The Second Trailer For 300: Rise Of An Empire [VIDEO] https://www.yellmagazine.com/watch-trailer-300-rise-empire-video/74322/ https://www.yellmagazine.com/watch-trailer-300-rise-empire-video/74322/#respond Thu, 05 Dec 2013 19:42:47 +0000 https://www.yellmagazine.com/?p=74322 Are you ready to see Eva Green and a tranny, I mean Xerxes, take on a bunch of oily men from Greece in 300: Rise of an Empire‘s second official trailer? Sure you are, because Green is hot as hell, and you’d give away your left nut to see her in action. At least I would in this case. Unfortunately, there’s nothing even close to being as explicit as Nymphomaniac‘s recent red band trailer, but I know you all have good imaginations.

300: Rise of an Empire also stars Lena Headey, Sullivan Stapleton, and Rodrigo Santoro.

Check out the trailer and make sure to mark your calender for March 7, 2014, for the theatrical release.

300: Rise of an Empire Synopsis

Based on Frank Miller’s latest graphic novel Xerxes, and told in the breathtaking visual style of the blockbuster 300, this new chapter of the epic saga takes the action to a fresh battlefield—on the sea—as Greek general Themistokles attempts to unite all of Greece by leading the charge that will change the course of the war.

300: Rise of an Empire pits Themistokles against the massive invading Persian forces led by mortal-turned-god Xerxes, and Artemisia, vengeful commander of the Persian navy.

Man Of Steel May Recognize The Justice League https://www.yellmagazine.com/man-of-steel-justice-league/45064/ https://www.yellmagazine.com/man-of-steel-justice-league/45064/#respond Tue, 27 Nov 2012 21:16:36 +0000 https://www.yellmagazine.com/?p=45064 Whether or not the decision to green light the Justice League film was based on the success of The Avengers, it’s coming in 2015. Right now, however, there’s tons of speculation of which Superman will appear in the film. Like so many Internet minds are saying, it doesn’t make sense to reboot the Superman franchise with Zack Snyder’s Man of Steel and then use another version of Superman for the Justice League.

Snyder was recently quoted in the NY Post:

“I don’t know how Justice League is going to be handled. Honestly, I don’t. But The Man of Steel exists, and Superman is in it. I don’t know how you’d move forward without acknowledging that.”

He also answered a follow-up question with the following:

“I can’t really say anything to that, because that’s a big spoiler. I will say, yeah, they trust me to keep them on course.”

What do you think? Should Snyder’s Man of Steel be in the Justice League? If not, can you imagine The Avengers without Robert Downey, Jr. in it? Yeah, didn’t think so. Post an argument below.

Man of Steel 2013 movie posterSporting a more realistic feel, and none of the Richard Donner worship of Bryan Singer’s Superman Returns, Man Of Steel (2013) has released its first teaser… well, two teasers, technically. You can either view the first footage of the upcoming movie with Kevin Costner as Pa Kent doing the voice over or with Russel Crowe doing Jor-El. So, in a way, pick your favorite Robin Hood and go for it! It remains to be seen if Director Zack Snyder (300, Watchmen) and Producer Christopher Nolan (Batman Begins, The Dark Knight, The Dark Knight Rises, Memento) can get asses in seats for Man of Steel (2013), which is arguably a tough sell: A complete reboot of the Superman franchise.

Top Greek Mythology Week – Yell! Magazine’s Editor Picks https://www.yellmagazine.com/top-greek-mythology-movies-yell-magazine%e2%80%99s-editor-picks/23622/ https://www.yellmagazine.com/top-greek-mythology-movies-yell-magazine%e2%80%99s-editor-picks/23622/#respond Fri, 11 Nov 2011 18:13:22 +0000 https://www.yellmagazine.com/?p=23622 Immortals (2011)

Well, folks, it’s finally here; Immortals lands in theaters everywhere today and you can be sure the seats will be filled with just as many greasy, pimply faced boys with too much peach-fuzz facial hair as juice-monkey jocks secretly (or not so secretly) checking out the buff man flesh on the big screen like they were Greek Gods… ah, wait… they are Greek Gods.

Immortals (starring Henry Cavill, Mickey Rourke, John Hurt, Stephen Dorff, and Freida Pinto) tells the story of Hyperion declaring war on humanity and in a quest for the legendary Epirus Bow so that he can free the rest of the Titans. The Gods can’t interfere with the fate of the humans, which leaves Hyperion free to do what he wants, until…

Anyway, in the spirit of this Greek tale, we thought we’d put together a collaborative list of some of our favorite forms of entertainment based, at least somewhat, on Greek Mythology. Ranging from film to TV to video games, we’re telling you about it. Naturally, this is what each of us here at Yell! Magazine likes, so such things as Spartacus are missing. Besides, there’s not a whole lot of material out there to choose from.

TheMatt’s Pick

The Odyssey (1997)

The Odyssey (1997)Ever since I was a kid, I’ve devoured mythology-based movies. I was first introduced to the character of Hercules with Lou Ferrigno’s classic 1983 schlockfest. I moved on to Ray Harryhausen-fueled epics such as Jason And The Argonauts and the original Clash Of The Titans. In short, I totally love watching burly Greek men in togas doing sweaty things to other sweaty men in togas. (I reserve the right to rephrase that at a later occasion.) With my Yell! Magazine cohorts having already chosen the best of the crop as their picks, I’m left with very few classics to discuss. Luckily, I have an ace up my sleeve!

The Odyssey, a 1997 mini-series starring Armand Assante as Odysseus, is filled to the brim with mythological goodness. Charting Odysseus’ journey from war-torn Troy, where he battles alongside such figures as Achilles, Agamemnon and Hector, to his many misadventures on his way home with the likes of Calypso, the Cyclops, and the witch Circe, The Odyssey is the full version of Homer’s ancient epic.

The Odyssey (1997)

For a television mini, the effects are top-notch. A surprisingly scary sequence involving an encounter with the monster Scylla is very effective and the violence found throughout the series pulls no punches, especially during the final slaughter of Penelope’s suitors at the hand of her returned husband.

The cast is a who’s who of Hollywood: Assante is terrific as Odysseus, Greta Scacchi is Penelope, his long suffering wife, Isabella Rossellini is the Goddess Athena, Eric Roberts is one the suitors, Vanessa Williams shows up as the wily Calypso, and even Christopher Lee turns up to steal a scene of two as the blind seer Tiresias.

All in all, this is one fine piece of filmmaking and I recommend looking it up if you’ve never seen it.

Evil Argento might have gotten a bit pussyfied. See his pick is next…

Sucker Punch (2011): Being Sucker Punched By Zack Snyder Is No Fun At All https://www.yellmagazine.com/sucker-punch-2011-review/9685/ https://www.yellmagazine.com/sucker-punch-2011-review/9685/#respond Tue, 29 Mar 2011 12:12:52 +0000 https://www.yellmagazine.com/?p=9685 The title says it all, the feeling you get when you leave the theater and feel like you have been sucker punched out of two hours of your life and money. Giving Zack Snyder’s record for movie making, it was a surprise to see such a wasted attempt of action and eye candy, then again, perhaps that’s what the title suggested.

Sucker Punch Picture

The movie starts out with a girl trying to defend her little sister, but accidently kills her and is committed to an insane asylum. In five days she will have a lobotomy, and it’s at about this moment that the movie jumps into her mind with meaningless fantasies that have no real danger or link to the actual plot. The plot itself would probably be 15 minutes without the wild imaginations, and this girl has the imagination of a 10 year old.

Sucker Punch Picture

The fantasies all begin within another fantasy. The girl “Babydoll” enters these worlds when she starts dancing in the previous fantasy, which is confusing enough. We are then taken through a world of Samurais, where she has to defend herself and we don’t really know why. In the second world, her friends join her as a group of commandos who need to steal a map and are given advice from some old guy that was in the earlier dream with the Samurais. The guy gives a cliche talk and the girls are off fighting an army of undead soldiers. In the third world we jump into some fantasy where the girls fight a dragon and Babydoll finishes it off with her sword, and finally we enter a world of robots where the girls have to disarm a bomb before it reaches some unknown city.

Sucker Punch Picture

Girls with swords fighting Samurais, dragons and robots is a cool concept, but we have to have a reason to care about what happens in the dream world. There has to be a link to the real world and implications, similar to how the Matrix or even Inception gave us something to care about. Both movies took place in worlds that weren’t real, yet whatever happened in that made-up world also effected the real world, it wasn’t just some empty dream or fantasy. Sucker Punch doesn’t bother to give us that sense of danger and so falls flat, unless you’re a teen boy.

Sucker Punch picture

Even if there were a plot, the movie visuals themselves seem like something out of a video game, while looking good in the trailer, with long stretches in the movie, they just are not that impressive. Even if the CGI looked real enough, we still only have a hollow fantasy that is all pointless. The entire movie felt like five different films rolled into one without any connection to the one before. We never really get a sense of a story, which leaves us to wonder how the script could even go as far as to make it to theaters. Do these filmmakers even take a look at the film before they decide to put it out? By the end of the movie, we were left with an empty feeling, and then we realized it was Zack Snyder punching us in the wallet.

Short Skirts, Machine Guns, B-52 Bombers, And Fire-Breathing Dragons… Sucker Punch Brings It All Together https://www.yellmagazine.com/sucker-punch-featurette-hd-video/4402/ https://www.yellmagazine.com/sucker-punch-featurette-hd-video/4402/#respond Thu, 30 Dec 2010 15:30:16 +0000 https://www.yellmagazine.com/?p=4402 A few months ago, we saw a stunning new vision in Sucker Punch (2011) with a kick-ass track from 1994 called “The Crablouse” by the Lords of Acid that came along with the trailer. We can’t blame ourselves for liking the track at all since it did bring the trailer together. Zack Snyder has been impressing everyone around the world with his unique vision for years, which is apparent in the box office numbers of his previous films, and it’s clear that he aims to continue spreading his creativity.

Snyder has described his latest action/fantasy flick Sucker Punch as “Alice in Wonderland with machine guns” and it includes fire-breathing dragons, short skirts, B-52 Bombers, and everything else your mind can dream of.

Sucker Punch Picture

Emily Browning (Baby-Doll) stars with four other sexy young women (outspoken Rocket, street-smart Blondie, fiercely loyal Amber, and reluctant Sweet Pea) to help her fight off her dark reality in her own dream world. Eventually, her epic adventure is blurred by what is reality and what is imaginary.

Check out what the cast and crew has to say in this HD featurette. Sucker Punch hits IMAX theaters in March 2011.
