Top 10 Greatest Moments From The Walking Dead Comic We Want To See On TV

With Season 2 of AMC’s The Walking Dead shambling its way to the finish line, what better time to revisit one of our old features? I’m referring, of course, to our initial Top 10 Walking Dead Moments list, published during the show’s first season.

Several of the moments I included on the list made their way into episodes of The Walking Dead’s second season, either in their original form or altered in some way to better fit the show’s narrative. Carl getting shot in the back by Otis, number 10 on the list, was a major plotline early on and number 9, Shane’s death, finally happened during the closing moments of the season’s penultimate episode. Viewers even got to witness number 2, as a suddenly undead Shane needed a bit more convincing, in the form of a 9 mm bullet to the forehead, to stay down.

On to the list of 10 More Of The Greatest Moments From The Walking Dead Comic We Absolutely Want To See On The Show!

No.10 The Other, Other White Meat

Jeffrey DeMunn’s Dale recently got his guts ripped out by a zombie while out on a relaxing evening walk. All by his lonesome. In a zombie infested wonderland. At night. You didn’t have to be Miss Cleo to see that one coming. How a rotting, decomposed corpse who had previously been stumped by his inability to extricate himself from a pile of mud suddenly finds the strength to rip somebody’s stomach open is something we won’t dwell on for the time being.

    “Vitamin C, ya’all!”

RIP: Dale. His comic book counterpart, on the other hand, survived for a much longer span of time. However, survival in The Walking Dead world is always just one zombie bite or crazy bunch of rednecks away. In Dale’s case, it was both! A bitten Dale decides to leave camp without telling the rest of the group about his impending case of zombieitis, preferring to die alone. One quick case of suicide interruptus later and Dale’s leg ends up the main course on the menu of a group of humans who rather enjoy the taste of human flesh. Dale gets the last laugh, literally:

The hunters weren’t aware of Dale’s bite. They’re eating contaminated meat. Whoops! Remember kids: always check your old people for zombie bites before cutting off their leg and roasting it on an open fire. Of course, with the TV Dale now dead, this particularly grisly fate might now be in the wings for another character. Hmmm, I wonder how T-Dog tastes with a nice vinaigrette…

No.9 Getting “A Head” In The World

Having set up shop in a (mostly) abandoned prison, Rick and the gang seem to have it all: safety, weapons, a large food supply, and electricity. Everything one needs to outlast a zombie plague. One small problem: the cast is forced to shack up with the prison’s remaining inmates. Axel, an older biker dude seems nice enough. Dexter and Andrew are willing to work with our heroes for mutual safety. The only question mark is Thomas, a mild mannered, glasses-wearing accountant type supposedly in the pokey for tax evasion.

Rick hurries on over to Hershel’s farm to gather up Glenn and the farmer’s entire clan, convincing them to seek shelter behind the prison’s considerable walls. Unfortunately, if you read number 6 on our previous list, you know how well that works out for Hershel’s twin daughters. Suffice it to say, there’s a serial killer on the loose and he’s got a thing for woman’s heads. Which is bad news for fan favorite Andrea.

Fortunately, Andrea doesn’t go down without a fight and Thomas ends up on the receiving end of a Rick Grimes beatdown, which costs the erstwhile lawman several broken fingers. Andrea, meanwhile, walks away with a nasty scar on her cheek, which she sports for the rest of the series, making her even more of a badass. The TV Andrea could use a little toughening up to bring her in line with the comic.
