Alright, so we really thought Carey Mulligan was going to star in Nicolas Winding Refn’s The Neon Demon because she appeared appropriate for the female-centric horror film. Like many other directors in the industry, Refn seems to favor actors from previous projects, so it made sense to us that Mulligan would star after her role in Drive, but we were completely wrong, folks.
According to a recent report from The Wrap, Elle Fanning (Super 8 and Maleficent) is lined up to star as an “aspiring model who is caught in a world of beauty and demise” in The Neon Demon. This will be Fanning’s second horror-related project she’s attached to that is slated for a release in 2016. Filming on The Neon Demon is expected to start in the first quarter of this year in Los Angeles, California, a location Refn has been itching to shoot another movie in since the completion of Drive.
Gaumont and Wild Bunch are teaming up with Refn to co-finance and co-distribute The Neon Demon, which is co-written by Mary Laws.
