It’s officially confirmed by UFC President Dana White and UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Jon Jones (19-1), his next title defense isn’t a rematch with Alexander Gustafsson (15-2) like most fans anticipated after last weekend’s epic main event for UFC 165. The next man in line is Brazilian mixed martial artist Glover Teixeira (22-2), and apparently the bout is already booked for Super Bowl weekend in Newark, New Jersey. According to MMA Fighting, White said, “that’s what the champ wants.”
Jones also confirmed the booking with ESPN, which will most likely be the headlining event in February 2014.
I’m going to fight Glover and I will answer all the critics about the Gustafsson fight. I will fight Gustafsson after I fight Glover. I won the fight but I look at it as a blemish on my record because some people think I didn’t. I promise you, he will be next.
Other reports are suggestiing that Gustafsson’s upcoming bout will be on a fight card in his native country of Sweden, and his opponent is yet to be determined.
