With principal photography expected to begin in July, the producers behind the new Blade Runner sequel are quickly filling in the main roles for the sequel. A few weeks ago, news broke out that former WWE superstar Dave Bautista landed an important supporting role in the movie.
This week, Alcon Entertainment announced that Cuban born Ana de Armas will join Ryan Gosling, Harrison Ford, Robin Wright and Bautista in a leading role. Armas most recently performed in Eli Roth’s home invading horror film, Knock Knock. She will also be seen in two major motion pictures releasing this August, including The Weinstein Company’s boxing biopic Hands of Stone.
Alcon co-founders and co-CEO’s Andrew Kosove and Broderick Johnson stated,
We think Ana is one of the most exciting, up-and-coming international actors in the world today, and we are thrilled she will be playing such an important part in this sequel.
The Blade Runner sequel is set several decades after the 1982 original, with Ford reprising his iconic role as Rick Deckard. The movie will be directed by Denis Villeneuve (Sicario, Prisoners) with Multi-Oscar nominated cinematographer Roger Deakins (Skyfall) handling all the camera work.
Blade Runner is now scheduled for an October 6th, 2017 release.
