Writer/director Angel Connell won the Best Horror Screenplay award from the 2017 Los Angeles Film Awards (LAFA) for his short script titled Evening of the Evil Eye.

The script’s story is about two thugs who, in attempting to rob a businesswoman, get more than they bargained for when they seize and destroy her Donald Trump voodoo doll.

About receiving the award, Connell said:

I’m very grateful to the LAFA for its award. I figured the script would get into the festival, but I was genuinely surprised that it won anything. I’m psyched!

The award-winning filmmaker hopes to turn the script into a movie in the spring of 2018, once he puts together a budget, raises money, and assembles a cast and crew. Further details about the upcoming project can be found on its IMDb page.

Connell is best-known for his previous independent movies, such as Beneath the Veneer of a Murder, Stocking Stuffers, and She’s so Cold. He was the line producer for Gilgamesh, the horror/sci-fi independent movie written and directed by maverick filmmaker Richard Chandler. Connell has also worked as a background actor in Hollywood movies such as Black Mass, The Purge: Election Year, and Patriot’s Day.
