Ubisoft is definitely not dicking around with its hit franchise, as it has officially announced Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag on the series’ website, including the launch of the world premiere trailer. Damn, that was a speedy announcement, but isn’t it a bit too early for another installment? We already reported that Ubisoft planned to work on Part IV sometime this year, surprisingly, the game will now be released on October 29, 2013.
This is a direct sequel to Assassin’s Creed III, however, the game will tell the story of Edward Kenway – father to Haytham Kenway, grandfather to Ratonhnhaké:ton and an ancestor of Desmond Miles. So you won’t be playing the series superstar Ezio, but a brash rebel Pirate Assassin that owns a ship. I just really hope this new character doesn’t resemble Jack Sparrow from Disney’s Pirates of the Caribbean. That would totally blow in my opinion.
What’s also interesting in Part IV is that the location and time period is set primarily on and around the islands in the Caribbean Sea during the early 18th century. Apparently, you can explore 50 locations across 3 main cities, which you can sail to in Edward’s pirate ship, The Jackdaw.
Since this trailer doesn’t feature any gameplay footage, only the cinematics, we will be sure to follow up with more updates on Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag in the weeks and months to come. As you know, we still got a ways to go before the release in October.
