This definitely isn’t uplifting, party-mode heavy metal. That stuff is better left to Steel Panther or Motley Crue. This is dark doom and savage sludge for anyone feeling languid and heavy this summer.
Future Noise has pulled two of the UK’s grittiest from beneath the Earth’s crust to give us a 12” split. Bastard of the Skies, from Blackburn, take side A with four tracks spanning 20 minutes of intense pounding. On the flip side, Grimpen Mire, from Birmingham, unleash three tracks of intense sludge to put the nails in the coffin of anyone who’s listening.
Bastard of the Skies – “Yarn”
All seven songs were recorded by Bastard of the Skies’ guitarist/vocalist Matt Richardson at his own Full Stack Studio, and to further reinforce the massive weight of both bands, master of sonic grimness, James Plotkin (OLD, Khanate, Khlyst), was roped in for a typically amazing mastering job.
The limited 12″ is adorned by Michael Cowell’s deeply evocative *artwork, perfectly capturing the feeling of creeping dread evoked by both bands.
