Full of haunting, witchcrafty melodies, the soothing and dark new track from Black Mare, “Low Crimes,” is as beautiful as it is somber. The track’s video premiered today over at Noisey, but you can watch it in the player above. The striking, narrative video was directed by Black Mare’s (and Ides of Gemini‘s) frontwoman, Sera Timms. If you’re wondering, Black Mare is Timms’ side project, and includes her bandmates from Ides of Gemini as well as members from Mustard & Gas.
Timms discusses the track:
I was trying to capture a deep, lush underworld feeling on ‘Low Crimes,’ but I wanted there to be a thread of light and softness. My own voice was not providing this, so I ended up having Tara Vanflower from Lycia add backing vocals which gives the vocal parts this perfect ethereal shimmering quality just hovering above the darkness.
“Low Crimes” will appear on the upcoming 7″ split with Lycia, set for release on Record Store Day, April 18th, via Magic Bullet Records. Pre-order the 7″ on limited-edition black wax and gray swirl here. Digital lovers can order the split via Magic Bullet’s BandCamp page here or iTunes here.
