For those of you who enjoyed the rawness of Lars von Trier‘s Antichrist, especially the opening sex scene between Charlotte Gainsbourg and Willem Dafoe in the shower, which gave the viewer a glimpse of real penetration performed by body doubles for a split second will be happy to hear that Trier’s upcoming film Nymphomaniac is going to be as explicit as this scene.
However, Trier is now pushing the envelope by digitally-imposing all the loving that happens below the waist of an actor with a body double. Hence all the real hardcore sex will appear like the actors are actually performing it.
“We shot the actors pretending to have sex and then had the body doubles, who really did have sex, and in post we will digital-impose the two,” says Vesth. The producer added that Von Trier is also “using double exposures and imposing words and symbols over the action as part of his storytelling.”
Sure, it may not be as ambitious as in how director Gaspar Noe would dream to shoot a sex scene in a film considering he said that he would prefer actors to perform real sex, but the technique Trier is aiming for will be as impressive, in my opinion.
Nymphomaniac stars Charlotte Gainsbourg, Stellan Skarsgard, Shia LaBeouf, Jamie Bell, Connie Nielsen, Christian Slater, Uma Thurman, Willem Dafoe, Jean-Marc Barr, and Udo Kier.
The film is set to release on May 30, 2013 in Denmark.
