With MGM’s November filing for bankruptcy protection, we were worried about two movie-related items. First, would we see a third Bond film with Daniel Craig. His portrayal of Bond’s reinvention as a grittier tough guy with more balls and less gadgets brought us back to the series that got lost when Pierce Brosnan took over the character.
Our second concern was whether Salva’s third installment of the Jeepers Creepers franchise would get shelved. It’s been eight years (2003) since we have seen Jonathan Breck as The Creeper. When we last saw him, he was on the wall of Taggart’s barn, with Taggart (Ray Wise) waiting for his reawakening as he held on to a spear gun.
Well, MGM recently got a wad of cash ($500 million) and has two films on the go. One being the third Bond flick, the other being Peter Jackson’s The Hobbit. But what about Jeepers Creepers 3: Cathedral?
Last we heard, the Salva-written script was finished and he was shoring up the final financing with MGM. As of now, nothing has changed, unfortunately. But MGM has shrunk dramatically to reorganize itself in its post-bankruptcy state and has indicated it will produce much fewer films. Is the legendary company down to making only two at a time? If so, JC3C is the odd man out and we may be waiting awhile before we see The Creeper up on the big screen again. I don’t know about you, but that’s disappointing to us at Yell! Magazine.
