I’m generally not a fan of “metalcore” or “deathcore.” By my own admission of metal snobbery, it’s just not metal and too many kids mistake it as such. For me, the genre is too cliche and there’s just something off about it all, from the bouncing preppy guys on stage to the tyring-too-hard guitar licks… it’s just weird.
However, this new track and video from Bring Me The Horizon goes against everything in me. “Go to Hell, for Heaven’s Sake” is good, if not excellent — even if vocalist Oliver Sykes sounds like Chester Bennington. Catchy, great sound, amazing emotion, this sounds like the breakthrough for the genre. And since it’s been on active rock stations for five months and hit No.33 on the charts this week, it’s definitely making a mark.
“Go to Hell, for Heaven’s Sake” comes from Bring Me The Horizon’s fourth studio album, Sempiternal. The video was directed by Stuart Birchall and the live shots were filmed at the Church of St. Bartholomew the Great in Barbican, London.
