Swedish retro rock act, Casablanca, recently launched the lyric video for the first single from their upcoming album, Miskatonic Graffiti, out later this summer. “My Shadow Out of Time” definitely has a blues rock vibe to it, but I don’t know how retro the band it; to my ears this type of rock has never lost any ground. Also, there are times when vocalist Anders Ljung reminds me of Spike from London Quireboys or Taime Downe from Faster Pussycat. Then there’s the chorus that sounds like it would be right at home on a horror movie soundtrack, like A Nightmare on Elm Street or Lost Boys.
The band commented:
First single from the Casablanca concept album Miskatonic Graffiti, ‘My Shadow out of Time’ is about memories of loss on a cosmic scale — of those left on the other side, gone forever? It’s about things left in the run, like shadows lost in time. Don’t we all lose a few shadows, while making our way through life?
The upcoming Miskatonic Graffiti is a concept album, broken into three sections, and based on the stories and events that take place in the small fictional town called “The Mountains.” The band describes the concept as if “Ziggy Stardust met H. P. Lovecraft in Twin Peaks.”
