Yell! Magazine Review:

Charred Walls of the Damned released their second album, Cold Winds on Timeless Days, in October 2011. If you read our review of their debut album, then you know we loved it, which makes it all the more unforgivable that it’s taken this long to get our review of their sophomore effort up.

We thought the self-titled debut was epic, and while it was full with nine tracks, we still felt it was too short and ended abruptly. We wanted more and anxiously anticipated the follow up effort. On Cold Winds on Timeless Days we got more, but after listening to this album several times, we’re still not entirely sure if more is better or if it’s just more of the same. Which reminds us of our recent tryst with several super models; there’s only so much mind-numbing, vapid conversations you can have about Burberry or Victoria’s Secret before needing to move on to something else.

The Charred Walls of the Damned’s cast remains the same: Richard Christy, Steve DiGiorgio, Tim “Ripper” Owens, and Jason Suecof, and all prove to be, once again, fully capable. But, unfortunately, aside from a few high points on Cold Winds, everything gets very old and tiresome very quickly. This sucks because we really wanted to like everything about this album.

Of course, and it should go without saying, it all depends on your tastes and how you listen to the album. For example, if you listen to the album with a technical ear, you’re going to find plenty to like. However, if you’re listening for some deep-rooted, basic A-B-A anthemic rock tracks, you’ll likely leave the room like someone farted.

Let’s get on with those high points. Check out our favorite tracks and see Richard Christy lay down some drums after the jump…
