Children of Bodom, Relentless Reckless Forever

If you haven’t pre-ordered Children of Bodom’s newest album, Relentless Reckless Forever, then mark March 8, 2011, in your calender now to give yourself a reminder that you’re a fucking idiot for not already doing so. This new song, “Ugly,” shows you how versatile COB is from its earlier song release “Was It Worth It,” from which I walked away feeling slightly disappointed by the change in musical direction.

“Ugly,” however, sounds much more like a good mix of early Children of Bodom with a cool keyboard riff (which is reminiscent of of the theme music of several ’80s slasher flicks) and heavy double bass. The solo near the end bleeds to a clean and tight finish. What more can I say? Children of Bodom has me by the balls now and I can’t wait to hear the entire album as a whole.

What COB has to say…

“Ugly is in my TOP 2 list of the album,” says the band’s bass player, Henkka T. Blacksmith. “I love the beginning. I love the Covenant style verse and the punk chorus. The weird prechorus or second verse, I don’t know how you call it, is a really good riff, and it shuffles the structure of the song by ending the song, too. The solo on the very simple solo background is really groovy. This is a simple, but heavy one!”
