OK, so here’s another exciting dose on the release of a new single, but this time it’s by the once-melodic death metal band, Children Of Bodom. From my musical background on COB, “Was It Worth It?” doesn’t deliver all the typical COB sound, if that’s what you are expecting (I’m referring to songs like “Lake Bodom” and “Angels Don’t Kill“). Lead singer, Alexi “WildChild” Laiho did point out in recent interviews that changes are happening. Since the release of Blooddrunk, the reception from early die-hard COB fans hasn’t been all that positive and we can hear why. Earlier songs had tons of melody and killer keyboard leads; if Ludwig Beethoven was in a heavy metal band, he would have been in early Children of Bodom.

It’s normal for bands to experiment and evolve from their original sounds to help keep and expand their fan following. The other band I’m referring to is In Flames, who has also taken a new leap and has toured with COB in the past. Was it worth the wait? I think so, even if it’s not hitting expectations, it does, however, grow on you and any release from Children of Bodom is worthy of a buy. We’re looking forward to the full-lentgh album, which will be available on March 8, 2011.

“Was It Worth It?” is the eighth track on COB’s new album Relentless Reckless Forever. The album will be available for pre-order in a variety of special editions starting January 17th at www.relentlessrecklessforever.com.
