March is Women’s History month. What better way to celebrate for those near the Buckeye State than to swing by Columbus, Ohio and attend HorrorHound Weekend? Located at the Crowne Plaza Columbus North on March 23rd through the 25th, the convention is set to be a very memorable ode to women’s cinematic suffrage (er, suffer-age) as HorrorHound celebrates “Women In Horror.”
Headlining the convention is a double bill of exploitation queen bee Pam Grier (Coffey, The Big Bird Cage, Jackie Brown) and iconic horror hostess Cassandra Peterson, aka, Elvira, Mistress of the Dark.
Laying down a firm foundation of fearful females is Tippi Hedren (The Birds), Sherilyn Fenn (Twin Peaks), Barbara Crampton (Re-Animator), Danielle Harris (Halloween 4), Adrienne Barbeau (John Carpenter’s The Fog), Scout-Taylor Compton (Rob Zombie’s Halloween), Amy Steel (Friday the 13th part 2), Julia Adams (Creature From the Black Lagoon), and Marilyn Burns (Tobe Hooper’s Texas Chainsaw Massacre), just to name a few.
Yet the festivities aren’t limited to ladies of scary cinema. Master of Horror Stuart Gordon (Re-Animator, From Beyond) will be on hand, along with Norman Reedus (Boondock Saints), Tyler Mane (Michael Myers of Rob Zombie’s Halloween), and Gunnar Hanson (Texas Chainsaw Massacre‘s original Leatherface). Indie horror fans will be excited to know Behind The Mask: Rise of Leslie Vernon-star Nathan Baesel and director Scott Glosserman will also be attending, promoting their highly anticipated sequel Before The Mask.
If you’re reading closely, you’ve already figured out HorrorHound has reunited the casts of From Beyond, Rob Zombie’s Halloween and Day of the Dead. The convention will be staging panels about said films as well as Q&A’s with Pam Grier, Terrance Zdunich (of Darren Lynn Bousman’s The Devil’s Carnival) and HorrorHound’s Icons of the Silver Screen (Julie Adams and Tippi Hedren).
Other events include a costume contest, the Horror Host Hall of Fame 2012 ceremony, the Shock Theatre Super 8 Marathon, and Coney Island’s Rock N’ Roll Show.
Still not enough? How about screenings? Monster Brawl, The Collapsed, Nailbiter, The Rage, and Death Stop Holocaust are playing throughout the weekend, for those jonesing for their indie horror fix.
And the best part? Yours truly will be offering coverage for the entire weekend exclusively for Yell! Magazine. If you’re there and want to say hi, I’ll be the over-nervous nerd struggling to string together simple sentences while meeting Danielle Harris, Barbara Crampton, Amy Steel, Pam Grier, Sherilyn Fenn…Wait, not specific enough? Sorry, I’ll be the one with a press pass.
Check out HorrorHound Weekend’s offical website for more information on the convention. We hope to see you there.
