The Two Movies Outside Of Horror That Are Getting Our Blood Rushing

When speaking of film, we here at Yell! Magazine love horror. If you can throw in some nude co-ed decapitations or zombies with fangs, or dead samurai warriors, or chicks with machine-gun appendages and no clothing, all the better to sleep soundly at night we always say.

But we are not one-trick ponies and we do not restrict ourselves to the blood and guts exclusively. Horror may be our wife, but we have many mistresses. They make our return home much more enjoyable with the comparison.

With that in mind, here are two films (including trailers) outside horror that we here at Yell! Magazine are anticipating seeing in the near future:

Cowboys & Aliens

Cowboys and Aliens posterEven if it’s a flop, which we are hoping Jon Favreau can avoid (he of Iron Man fame), the idea is fun enough to check out. It stars Daniel Craig who arms himself with a six-shooter and an alien wrist weapon, rather than a Walther PPK for her Majesty’s Secret Service. Craig joins old guy Harrison Ford to battle against an alien invasion in Arizona.

When you throw in the sexy Olivia Wilde (Dr. Remy Hadley on House M.D. among other roles), you might start to become optimistic. Western-themed movies usually bomb, but lets hope aliens can turn this idea around. True Grit succeeded, without any aliens, so maybe we’re seeing a trend.

Release Date: July 29, 2011

Cowboys & Aliens Trailer:

World Invasion: Battle Los Angeles

World Invasion: Battle Los Angeles posterWhere Cowboys & Aliens seems like a fun romp, WIBLA looks very dark. It’s not surprising when you remember director Jonathan Liebesman is the guy who brought us The Killing Room, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning, and Darkness Falls.

This time there are no government experiments, serial killers, or vengeful Tooth Fairy ghosts–just bad aliens bent on the conquering of Earth. Aaron Eckhart stars alongside Michelle Rodriguez, Michael Pena, and Bridget Moynahan.

Release Date: March 11, 2011

It’s my first time seeing the trailer for World Invasion: Battle LA 2011 and it looks very promising. Kinda feels like a blend of District 9, Cloverfield, Independence Day and shit loads more. I’d be willing to see both.
