Following the success of the budget zombie thriller, Dead Island, an open world action RPG developed by Techland and published by Deep Silver, is undoubtedly getting a sequel made by the polish developers titled Dead Island: Riptide. The story promises to picks up right after where Dead Island left off, and will follow the four surviving characters, including a new one, on another intense journey as they continue to get overrun by zombies on the island of Palanai.

Since the details about Dead Island Riptide are still very vague, VG247 recently had an interview with the developers and they unveiled some information about the new experience, the plot, and weapon tracking feature built in the game.

“No worries guys, with the flooded jungle the whole experience of this game will feel really different. The additional defensive gameplay, the boat, and the advanced character development will make sure that you are diving into a different experience.”

“Plot-wise, ‘darker’ is good description of where we’re heading, but of course we stay bright and beautiful on the outside. We are taking a very special step in this installment and we are looking forward to see how the fans react to it.”

“There will be a new character, and yes we have a lot of ideas as mentioned before. There will be whole lot more to do. One small example would be that the game now tracks which weapons you use and mirrors that in your proficiency with those weapons.”

Techland also mentioned that they have shifted the setting partially in Dead Island: Riptide, and built in new features fitting to the different environment to make sure the gameplay experience rocks again.

Dead Island: Riptide is currently set for release in 2013 for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and Microsoft Windows platforms.
