It’s always refreshing to see something different within the zombie/virus genre. You can only watch so many Romero knockoffs before you’re done. For me, Dead Girl went above and beyond telling an alternate zombie tale.
So, it’s with this spirit that I’m anxious to see the feature debut of writer/director Maude Michaud, Dys-. Born just outside of Montreal, Canada, Michaud seems to have the same appreciation for off-topic zombie narratives:
[Dys- is] a psychological horror film which is a direct response to the current oversaturation of the genre by zombies.
Dys- Synopsis:
A strange disease is plaguing the city. Hoping to escape contamination, Eva and Sam, an estranged married couple, are forced to barricade themselves in their apartment, despite the palpable tension between them. Now forced into isolation in their small living space, they struggle with their own frailty in a world that can only offer the worst horrors imaginable.
Dys- stars Shannon Lark, Alex Goldrich, and Dega Lazare, with a cameo by Lynn Lowry, and will have its world premiere at Fantasia Friday, August 1st, at 7:30 p.m. at the Salle J.A. de Sève (1400 boul. de Maisonneuve O.). Tickets will be available very soon at Fantasia’s official website.
