I don’t know if it’s the score or if it’s the sense of foreboding unknown, but this trailer encapsulates a lot of what freaks me out in horror movies. Making its world premiere at Fantasia 2014 is The Midnight Swim, written and directed by Sarah Adina Smith, and it’s kind of unfortunate that it’s not going to be a midnight screening, but I suppose at 7:30 in the evening your film will get more exposure.
Judging from the trailer, there are two important lessons carried in this supernatural horror flick: don’t go tampering with the spirit world, and don’t go in the water.
The movie stars Lindsay Burdge (A Teacher), Jennifer Lafleur (Do-Deca Pentathalon), Aleksa Palladino (Boardwalk Empire), Ross Partridge (Baghead, The Off Hours), Beth Grant (No Country for Old Men, The Artist), Michelle Hutchison (Fargo, Thin Ice), and Shirley Venard (The Cure).
The Midnight Swim screens Sunday, July 27th, at 7:30 p.m. in the DB Clarke Theatre.
The Midnight Swim Synopsis:
When their mother goes missing in Spirit Lake, three half-sisters travel home to settle her affairs. The youngest sister, June (Lindsay Burge), a documentary filmmaker, captures their bittersweet homecoming. But when the sisters jokingly summon a local ghost, their relationship begins to unravel and they find themselves drawn deeper and deeper into the true mystery of the lake.
Transporting its audience to a place drenched in the supernatural, The Midnight Swim is an eerie, atmospheric exploration of the inexplicable pull towards the unknown.
