The highly-anticipated heavyweight fight between a legend and a former UFC veteran has been officially re-booked for June in New York City.
That’s right! Fedor Emelianenko vs. Matt Mitrione is back on and it has been booked as the co-headliner for Bellator 180, according to multiple online sources. MMAfighting.com confirmed the report after the New York Post broke the news on Monday. Mitrione was scheduled to take on Emelianenko at Bellator’s February 18, 2017 show in San Jose, California. However hours before the fight Mitrione was forced out of the bout due to kidney stones.
The main event will feature the long-awaited grudge match between rivals Chael Sonnen and Wanderlei Silva. Both of whom who also have former ties with the UFC and was expected to settle their differences inside the Octagon at UFC 175 in 2014. But the fight was cancelled after Sonnen failed his random drug test.
Bellator 180: Silva vs. Sonnen is scheduled to take place on June 24, 2017 at the Madison Square Garden in New York City.
