by This is a little outside our comfort zone in terms of musical genre at Yell! Magazine, but the new video from post-hardcore act Hands Like Houses, simple as it may be, is a win on so many levels. Yes, it’s absurdly hilarious in its visuals, but it’s also very touching and heart wrenching.
Listen up kids, this is your future. As you get older, you’re going to feel trapped. Trapped by your kids, trapped by your spouse, trapped by your mortgage, trapped by your car payment, trapped by your student loans, trapped by your job… just trapped. Yes, we’re trapped as kids too, but the prison of adulthood is vastly different with dire consequences if you screw up.
The video for “A Tale of Outer Suburbia” captures all of that and more in its simplicity. Featuring a housewife singing from the heart and then performing a very cathartic dance, you can’t help but to feel her pain. In many ways, I prefer the housewife’s acapella to the song itself.
I’m going to stop writing now before I turn into an emo kid.
