What do you do when you interview a band such as Nashville Pussy? You bring shots of whiskey to the table and throw back with the band. We actually thought it was a pretty cool idea, but from what guitarist Ruyter Suys told us, we weren’t the only media crew who had that thought. Actually, it was such a popular idea that vocalist (and Ruyter’s husband) Blaine Cartwright was pretty well lit up by the time we sat down with them. He must be well-accustomed to the state of inebriation because he was still able to answer our questions in a coherent manner.
When NP played at Heavy Montreal I noticed that the audience seemed to enjoy the performance, although they didn’t quite seem to know what to do with themselves. I brought up my observation to the band, and they wholeheartedly agreed, even offering some pretty sound rationale for the phenomenon.
The third member of the band we spoke to was newcomer Bonnie Buitrago. It was interesting to learn that she had been a fan of the band since she was a kid, and now she wields bass for the party rockers.
All in all it was a pretty fun interview, made cooler by the fact that Blaine knows who The Replacements are.
