Those of you who have been following the bullshit case of Québec VFX artist, Rémy Couture, 35, charged with corrupting morals in 2009 through the distribution, possession and production of obscene materials, will be happy to hear that all charges have been dropped late Saturday, after a two day trial at the Montréal courthouse in Québec.

If he was found guilty, this is a conviction that could have cost him a two year maximum sentence behind bars for the horror special-effects he created in a short film titled Inner Depravity, posted on his website a while back. A horror film that depicted gruesome murders, torture, sexual abuse, assaults and necrophilia with female victims. Apparently, the film was so graphic that jury (seven-woman, five-man) refused to watch the entire thing.

After leaving the courthouse the other day, he told reporters the following:

“It’s like a 400-pound weight has been lifted, It’s been the most stressful thing I’ve ever had to go through in my life”.

Since I met Couture face to face at the Montréal ComicCon this year, who was delighted to talk to me about his latest handiwork and a little bit about these charges. I’m personally thrilled that this case is finally behind him now, and that he can now continue to create his art, without infringement on his right to free expression.

Good luck to Rémy and the future of his artwork. I’m sure we will hear a lot more about him in the years to come.
