The initial lineup for Montreal Comiccon, which returns to Palais des congrès from September 12 to 14, was announced during a press conference held today at Cineplex Quartier Latin. Legends in the realms of science-fiction, fantasy, horror, wrestling, and, of course, comic books will be part of this year’s celebration, which aims to be the biggest yet.
Leading the charge from her throne room is Lena Headey, the English actress best known for the role of Cersei Lannister in HBO’s hugely successful television series Game of Thrones, HBO’s biggest hit since The Sopranos. She has a long list of genre titles to her name, including The Brothers Grimm (2005), 300 (2007), Dredd (2012) and the television series Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles playing the title character. Also on hand will be Danny Glover, a household name in film and television known for his roles in The Color Purple (1985), Predator 2 (1990) and Saw (2004), though most remember him fondle for his role of Detective Sergeant Roger Murtaugh in the Lethal Weapon film series, which has elevated him to iconic status. Stephen Amell, who plays the title character in the CW’s hit series Arrow, will also be making a special appearance. On the show, Amell plays Oliver Queen, the spoiled heir to his tycoon father’s empire, who moonlights as a crime-fighting vigilante. Its premiere drew over 4 million viewers, making it the CW’s most watched program in over three years.
The Montreal HorrorFest is back for its third year and will have films, programming and guests geared toward the horror genre. The Guest of Honour for this component of the Montreal Comiccon is none other than the “Grandfather of the Zombie”, George A. Romero. He is largely credited for defining the modern pop-culture zombie archetype and for creating the zombie apocalypse sub-genre of horror, starting with 1968 classic Night of the Living Dead. A true Master of Horror, Romero’s zombies have influenced everything from The Simpsons‘ Treehouse of Horror Halloween specials to the Resident Evil video game franchise, as well as authors like Stephen King and Robert Kirkman’s comic book and TV series The Walking Dead.
Star Trek: The Next Generation proved that Trek can exist independent from The Original Series. Considered to be one of the greatest science fiction shows of all time, this Starfleet crew brought us on many adventures aboard the Federation starship Enterprise D and led the charge of quality TV to millions. Montreal Comiccon is proud to host its largest gathering of TNG cast members yet, including Jonathan Frakes (Riker), LeVar Burton (La Forge), Michael Dorn (Worf), Marina Sirtis (Troi), Brent Spiner (Data), Gates McFadden (Dr. Crusher), Denise Crosby (Tasha Yar) and John DeLancie (Q).
Wrestling fans will be pleased to know that the WWE has a place at the Montreal Comiccon, which this year includes WWE Hall of Fame Trish Stratus and four-time WWE Women’s Championship winner, Lita.
The starting line-up for comic book guests is with luminaries in sequential art with Brian Pulido (Lady Death), Clayton Crain (X-Force), Nick Bradshaw (Guardians of the Galaxy) and Simon Bisley (Lobo).
The Montreal Comiccon runs from Friday, September 12 to Sunday, September 14, 2014 at Palais des congrès. Tickets will be available for sale as of Wednesday, May 28, 2014 at 12:00 p.m., including single day and three-day tickets as well as special VIP packages.
