James Wan has just secured a big two-pronged deal with New Line Cinema that will see him developing and producing modest-budget movies in the horror, sci-fi, and comedy genres via his Atomic Monster production company. More than that, for us anyway, the reason why the The Conjuring 2‘s 2015 release date was just recently pushed back to 2016 is because James Wan will be directing the sequel, but he needs time to properly promote his Fast & Furious 7.
Wan’s deal with New Line is the filmmaker deal that the company has with a director. The point here is that New Line and Warner Bros. want to groom Wan into a major director, seeing huge potential in him.
If you’re wondering what happened to Wan’s “break from horror,” he had this to say on his Facebook page:
I know I said I’m taking a break from horror (!), but the sequel story/ideas are really exciting…AND…I have a master plan towards a big picture/career/goal!! I’m truly excited with the future steps, and all this is towards creating/making films that I’m passionate about.
What do you think of Wan’s deal and the news that he’ll direct The Conjuring 2?
