There’s no doubt that James Wan is a lucrative horror director/producer, who still has plans to stay in horror until he really decides to cut all ties from the genre for whatever reason. Although Wan won’t direct another horror picture anytime soon, he will continue to write original ideas and produce them.
With his hands tied over the next three years with three spin-offs in The Conjuring franchise, Insidious: Chapter 3, Saw VIII, and much more to come, it clearly doesn’t look like he’s lost any faith in horror.
Another one of Wan’s films to look forward to this year is Demonic. It will star Golden Globe nominee Maria Bello (A History of Violence) as the lead female along with Frank Grillo (The Purge: Anarchy).
The film centers on the aftermath of a horrific massacre where five college students were brutally murdered inside an abandoned home. Detective Mark Lewis and psychologist Dr. Elizabeth Klein question one of the few survivors who explains they were amateur ghost-hunters, seeking out paranormal phenomenon at the abandoned house, which was believed to be haunted. But what started out as a harmless activity turned into something truly terrifying.
Dimension Films revealed the movie has a fixed release date in the books, and will officially drop across theaters in December, with hopes to have another box office hit like Wan’s Saw and Insidious franchise. Erik Lomis, president of Theatrical Distribution & Home Entertainment for The Weinstein Company and Dimension Films, said:
James Wan is the new master of terror and we are thrilled to be releasing his film this December.
Demonic hits theaters on December 12, 2014.
