Kevin Lee may not have achieved the win he wanted last night against Michael Chiesa, but he’s moving forward in the UFC lightweight rankings and setting up his next fight.
Following his controversial technical submission win over Chiesa, Lee is now “looking forward” to a fight with Khabib Nurmagomedov or potentially a fight with Edson Barboza. However, a lightweight bout may also be brewing with Tony Ferguson.
In a post-fight interview via UFC on FOX, Lee exchanged heated words with Ferguson after he commented on the fight, claiming that Lee was DDT’d at some point by Chiesa.
Lee said,
I’m not sure what you’re talking about. I don’t even know what a DDT is. I think that’s a WWE move. I’m pretty sure I’m the one that lifted him in the air, so I don’t see how he’s slamming me when I’m putting him on my shoulder. Can we put a real journalist on?
Ferguson responded,
You’re just like Al Iaquinta, I can’t understand anything you say. Everything you’re saying is all just a bunch of hoopla. You need to get in line. You need to take a ticket and you need to bleed a little bit. You need to go through guys like Edson Barboza, Rafael dos Anjos. You’re just barely breaking into this whole thing.
At the moment, it appears like Nurmagomedov is only interested in his the interim title bout against Ferguson that fell through at UFC 209. Ferguson vs. Nurmagomedov has been previously scheduled on three different occasions, but never came to fruition due to injuries. The fight still appears to be in the works for 2017.
