On Monday, one of MMA’s biggest draws in the history of the sport died at age 42. His street name was best known as Kimbo Slice, but close friends and family knew him as Kevin Ferguson. At the moment, the cause of death is unknown.
According to TMZ, law enforcement sources told them … Slice was admitted to a hospital near his home on Monday in Coral Springs, Florida and police where at his home gathering information from family members.
At the time of his death, Slice was signed with Bellator MMA. He defeated Dada 5000 in February at Bellator 149, but the victory was overturned when Slice tested positive for a banned steroid.
Bellator President Scott Coker released the following statement on Slice’s death.
We are all shocked and saddened by the devastating and untimely loss of Kimbo Slice, a beloved member of the Bellator family.
One of the most popular MMA fighters ever, Kimbo was a charismatic, larger-than-life personality that transcended the sport.
Outside of the cage he was a friendly, gentle giant and a devoted family man. His loss leaves us all with extremely heavy hearts, and our thoughts and prayers are with the entire Ferguson family and all of Kimbo’s friends, fans, and teammates.
