Anchor Bay Entertainment Canada and Raven Banner Entertainment Canada are joining forces to distribute the New Zealand genre film Housebound, which we had the delight to screen and review at Fantasia Fest 2014, within the Canadian home entertainment market. This announcement comes just as the film makes its Toronto Premiere at the 2014 Toronto After Dark Film Festival.
The film is in the midst of a successful international festival run with premieres at SXSW, Vancouver International Film Festival, and the Neuchâtel International Fantasy Film Festival 2014, where Housebound won the H.R. Giger “Narcisse” Award for Best Feature Film and the Dead by Dawn Horror Film Festival in Scotland where it landed an Audience Award.
Housebound Synopsis:
Housebound tells the story of Kylie Bucknell (Morgana O’Reilly), an ill-tempered delinquent forced to return to the house she grew up in when the court places her on home detention. Her punishment is made all the more unbearable by the fact that she has to live there with her mother, Miriam (Rima Te Wiata) – a well-intentioned blabbermouth who’s convinced that the house is haunted. Kylie dismisses Miriam’s superstitions as nothing more than a distraction from a life occupied by boiled vegetables and small-town gossip. However, when she too becomes privy to unsettling whispers and strange bumps in the night, she begins to wonder whether she’s inherited her mother’s overactive imagination, or if the house is, in fact, possessed by a hostile spirit who’s not particularly thrilled about her return. The film also stars Glen-Paul Waru and Millen Baird.
