Yell! Magazine’s As I Lay Dying Awakened Review:
As I Lay Dying is about to drop its sixth full-length, Awakened, on September 25, 2012, and it’s about to polarize its fans. Same thing happened to In Flames back in 2002 when they released Reroute to Remain and pissed off some core fans with a style shift. I guess the same thing essentially happened to *Metallica back in 1991 with the release of The Black Album.
Tim Lambesis Interview For Awakened
Let’s start with the good on As I Lay Dying’s Awakened. Tim Lambesis sounds awesome. He’s got a deeper growl going on and his shrill screaming deliveries will make your skin crawl. Musicianship by all seems to be up, even if Jordan Mancino seems to have slowed his tempo. There are a lot of interesting solos, interludes, melodies, and some badass chugging from time to time, such as on “Defender.” Production is also up, which we’ll attribute to Bill Stevenson (Descendants drummer). As you’ll see, I’m going to attribute a lot to Mr. Stevenson.
