Lucifer Premieres “Izrael” Video

Berlin’s occult doom metal band, Lucifer, released a new video today via NPR, but we’ve included it in the player above for your convenience. Have a listen to “Izrael” and let us know what you think, but I’m pretty sure it might be among the best things you’ve heard all day.

Sonically, it’s reminiscent of ’70s doom metal, but it definitely has a modern melody and clarity to it, and Johanna Sadonis vocals are simply gorgeous and compelling. There are times when drummer Andrew Prestidge seems to conjure John Bonham, and I’d liken The Wizard’s guitar work to Pentagram’s Victor Griffi, more so than to Black Sabbath’s Tony Iommi.

The video, directed Chris Koll and Sadonis, is stark, bleak, and beautiful with some fantastic occult imagery. The video also features some live footage from Lucifer’s Berlin show last April.

“Izrael” was written by ex-Cathedral guitarist, Garry Jennings and front woman Johanna Sadonis and is taken from their upcoming debut album, entitled Lucifer I. Order the album here.

In support of Lucifer I the band will play their first ever North American tour alongside High on Fire, Pallbearer, and Venomous Maximus. See below for dates.
