In as many days, Megadeth has seen two of its longtime members, Shawn Drover (drums) and Chris Broderick (guitar), quit the band. With Drover having been in the band for the past 10 years and Broderick for the last 7, they have been a part of one of Megadeth’s most stable lineups, and certainly a part of the band’s “reinvention.”
Drover, who made his announcement first, stated via Blabbermouth:
After 10 years, I have decided to quit Megadeth to pursue my own musical interests. I want to thank Dave Mustaine and the entire Megadeth family, as well as thanking all the amazing Megadeth fans around the world!!! I truly appreciate all of you. Stay tuned for info on my next musical journey.
Hours later, Broderick posted the following statement on his official blog:
Due to artistic and musical differences, it is with great reluctance that I announce my departure from Megadeth to pursue my own musical direction. I want all of you to know how much I appreciate the amount that you the fans have accepted and respected me as a member of Megadeth for the last seven years, but it is time for me to move on. I wish Dave and everyone in Megadeth all the best. I am working on a few things of my own and hope that when they come out, you will all dig it.
Until then,
Chris. \m/
As shocking as the news is to fans, it has to be exponentially more shocking for Dave Mustaine and David Ellefson. However, Megadeth has yet to make its own statement via Facebook or its official website.
Who knows what the artistic differences are that both Drover and Broderick have mentioned, but it sounds like a consorted move on their parts (although that is unconfirmed).
