Besides a Child’s Play TV series in the works, it appears like MGM Studios is now interested in remaking Child’s Play in the very near future.
According to THR, MGM is moving forward on developing a Child’s Play remake with Lars Klevberg (Polaroid) attached as director and Tyler Burton Smith (Kung Fury 2) to write a first draft of the screenplay. IT (2017) producers David Katzenberg and Seth Grahame-Smith are on board to finance the horror project, which could potentially start filming in Vancouver as early as this September.
At the moment there’s no word if Don Mancini, who co-created Child’s Play and helmed the latest three films in the seven-film franchise, will be involved with the remake whatsoever. We don’t even know if the remake will even connect to or reference the upcoming TV series or pre-existing films. The original 1988 film was directed by Tom Holland (Fright Night) and celebrates its 30th anniversary this year.
We’ll make sure to continue to keep Yellers in the loop as more development unfolds, so stay tuned!
