Mitch Lucker of Suicide Silence tragically died in a motorcycle crash in November 2012. As a vocalist, lyricist, and musician he touched the lives of countless fans, helping them to overcome private difficulties and personal demons. Those that had the chance to meet him had the opportunity to meet a humble and grateful rock star. Fans who never met Mitch now have the chance to feel a little bit closer to the late vocalist thanks to the short 30-minute Mitch Lucker documentary that surfaced on Christmas day.
The documentary includes comments and testimonials of Mitch’s character from fans to bandmates to family and to friends. Although we at Yell! Magazine never had the privilege to interview Mitch officially (we got to go on record with Mark Heylmun, however), we did get to meet and chat with him unofficially in and around the fest grounds at 2012’s D-TOX Rockfest. We got to witness Mitch practice what was said about him in the documentary, that he had a belief that without the fans Suicide Silence weren’t shit. He took the time to chat with us and he made as much time as possible for any fan that came up to him. It’s rare enough to find a member of a band emerge from behind the scenes to check out the fest grounds, but to see one so engaged with the fans is like finding an honest politician. In retrospect, we should have gone to the after party he invited us to.
While the documentary is a wonderful piece to help us remember Mitch, it’s also serving as a bit of a promotional tool for the upcoming release of the Mitch Lucker memorial show that will be available on CD/Blu-ray and CD/DVD this February 18th (EU Release Date is March 17th). Pre-orders are available at: www.thirddegreemerch.com/suicidesilence. Proceeds from sales are going to the Kenadee Lucker Education Fund (Kendadee is Mitch’s surviving daughter).
As announced back in October 2013, Suicide Silence has made the decision to move forward with a new singer, Eddie Hermida of All Shall Perish. A new Suicide Silence album is expected in the summer of 2015.
