Forget the 1999 version of The Mummy. It sucked, being designed to earn a profit as a summer family blockbuster with tons of visual effects. It’s a good thing there’s going to be a new remake of The Mummy, which already sounds more interesting because it promises to be more horror focused like the classic that Universal Studios released in 1932.
There isn’t much detail yet other than the creative team will include director Andy Muschietti (Mama) and producers Alex Kurtzman & Roberto Orci (Star Trek) and Sean Daniel. Jon Spaihts (Prometheus) wrote the screenplay, and Bobby Cohen and Barbara Muschietti will executive produce.
In addition, Universal just announced the released date for the new Mummy, and it won’t be out for a while. The date they’re currently eyeing is April 22, 2016, but don’t be surprised if it gets changed in the future.
